Assignment No 1 PDF

The document presents an assignment by Muhammad Anees for Applied Physics theory, focusing on solving a circuit using Kirchhoff's Voltage Law (KVL). It details the circuit components, calculations for current and voltage drops across resistors, and verifies the results using Kirchhoff's Current Law (KCL). The final values obtained are I1 = 0.617A, I2 = 0.5086A, I3 = 0.109A, with corresponding voltage drops V1 = 12.34V, V2 = 3.27V, V3 = 7.629V, and V4 = 7.36V.

Assignment No # 01

Name: Muhammad Anees

Subject: Applied Physics theory
Submitted to: Sir
System Id: NUML-f24-27807

Question No 1: Solve the given circuit by using KVL. Find out all the values of current
and voltage drops against each resistor. The values are given as:
R1 = 20 Ohms, R2 = 30 Ohms, R3 = 15 Ohm and R4 = 40 Ohms, V1 = 20 V

V1 V2
I1 b
a I3
I2

V Loop1 Loop2

V3 V4

Answer:
We have to find v1, v2, v3 and v4. V is for battery that is known and equal to 20v.
R1, R2, R3 and R4 are known.

At a: I1 = I1
At b: I1 = I2 + I3
At c: I2 + I3= I1

For loop 1:
V- V1-V3 =0
20-I1-15 I2 = 0
20-(I2 +I3) – 15I2 =0
20 = 35I2 + 20I3 ------(1)
For loop 2:
0 = -30I3 -40I3 +15I2
70I3 = 15 I2
I2= 70/15 I3

From 1:
20 = 20 I3 + 35*70/15 I3
20 = 550/3 I3
I3 = 0.109A
I2 = 70/15 * 0.109 = 0.5086A
I1 = 0.617A

V1 = I1 R1 = 0.617 * 20 = 12.34 V
V2 = I3 R2 = 0.109 * 30 = 3.27 V
V3 = I2 R3 = 0.5086 * 15 = 7.629 V
V4 = I3 R4 = 0.109 * 40 = 7.36 V

KCL Verification for Loop 1:

V –V1 –V3 =0
20V = 13.34 + 7.629  19.969 ~ 20
20V = 20 V
KCL Verification for Loop 2:
0 = -V2 –V4 + V3
V3 = V2 + V4
7.629V = 3.27 + 4.36
7.629V = 7.63V

Hence, proved the KCL for two loops of given circuit.
