MATH CAMP ACTIVITIES

MATH SCAVENGER HUNT

Objective: practice problem-solving and basic math operations.

Procedure: create a series of math-related clues that lead the students around the camp
area or classroom.
For example:
One clue might say “ the number of chairs in the room and divide it by 2. The next clue will
lead to another math problem such as add 3 to the previous answer and so on until they
reach the final prize.

MATH BINGO

Objective: Review addition, subtraction, multiplication or division.

Procedure: create bingo cards with math problems in each square.

Ex. 7+5, 12÷ 3, 9X 2) , Call out the answer to the problems on their cards. The first to
complete a line shouts “Bingo” and wins.

MATH RELAY RACE

Objective: build speed accuracy in basic math operations.
Procedure: set up a relay race where teams of students must solve math problems, then
hand the baton to next who does multiplication and so on.

TANGRAM CCHALLENGES
Objective: Explore geometry and spatial reasoning.
Procedure; give students a tangram puzzle ( a set of seven flat shapes that can be
rearranged to form various figures.) challenge them to create specific shapes, animals or
objects. As an added twist, students can compete to see who ca make the most shapes in a
given time.
NUMBER LINE JUMP
Objective: build number sense and math skills/
Procedure: Draw a giant line on the ground or use a tape to create number line in the
classroom. Give each student a math problem (ex: “start at 10, then subtract 3,” or start at
0, then add 5) students will physically jump to the correct position on the number line based
on the problem they solve.

NUMBER SENSE DICE GAME

Objective: Improve number recognition and basic operations

Procedure: Give students a pair of dice. They roll the dice and then perform a math
operation with
the numbers. (Ex: add, subtract, or multiply them) the player who gets the highest total or
solves the problem correctly first win or points.

SHAPE HUNT

Objective: Explore geometry and real-world applications.

Procedure: Send students on a “shape hunt” around the camp or classroom to find objects
that match certain geometric shapes.
Ex: Find and object that looks like a triangle “ find somethings with a circle shape.
afterwards, discuss the properties of these shapes with the group.

FRACTION PIZZA PARTY

Objective: Teach fraction in a fun, hands-on way.

Procedure: use paper plates to create “ pizzas” and divide them into different fraction
parts. (Ex: If you ate 2/4 of the pizza, how much is left? Students can also work in groups to
solve fraction problem with pizza.
MATH PICTIONARY
Objective: review math vocabulary and concepts.
Procedure: in this version Pictionary, students take turns drawing math - related terms on
the board . (Ex: equation, triangle, addition, multiplication) and the rest of the group
guesses what it is. To make more challenging, you can set a timer for each drawing.

MATH JEOPARDY

Objective: Review math concepts through a fun-quiz format.

How it works: Set up a jeopardy style board with different categories ( Multiplication,
Addition, Subtraction, Division) participants or teams take turns selecting questions from
the board and answering them. The questions can range in difficulty and could be about
facts, famous mathematicians or solving specific problems.
Materials; white board or PowerPoint for the Jeopardy board.
