Half Bridge and Full Using Pipsce

The document outlines the objectives and theoretical background for simulating half bridge and full bridge-controlled rectifiers using Pspice software. It details the operation of single-phase half-wave and full-wave thyristor circuits with resistive and inductive loads, including the calculation of average and RMS output voltages. Key concepts such as firing angle, conduction angle, and extinction angle are also discussed.

1. The simplest form of controlled rectifier circuits consists of a single thyristor
dc power to a resistive loadR, as shown in Figa).

2. The source voltage is Vs = Vm sinwt, Fig.(b). An SCR can conduct only when
voltage is positive, and a gating signal is applied.
3. As such, a thyristor blocks the flow of lond current io until it is triggered. At some
turns on
delay angle a, a positive gate signal applied between the gate and cathode
the SCR. Immediately, the full supply voltage is applied to the load as Vo, Fig.(b).
4. At the instant of delay angle a, Vo rises from zero to Vm sinwt as shown. For resistive
load, current lo is in phase with Vo' Firing angle of a thyristor is measured from the
instant it would start conducting if a diode replaced it.
5. Afiring angle may thus be defined as the angle between the instant thyristor's
conduct if it were a diode and the instant it is triggered
