Mobile Addiction: Its Unseen consequences

In today's digital age, mobile phones have become an integral part of our daily lives. As our
world evolves, everything in this world is also evolving. Rapid changes become so prevalent and
it’s just one click away, boom everything changes. Nowadays, people’s life becomes much more
easy. Compared before, today’s generation enjoys so much on its modernization from the aspect
of transportation, lifestyle and even in technology. With the advent of technology, everything
now is accessible and possible.
While they offer numerous benefits, excessive mobile usage has led to a growing concern:
mobile addiction. People nowadays relied too much on their mobile phones and tendency is that
they already outcasted the traditions and adapt the modernization too much. Everywhere in this
world, mobile addiction has been the most prevalent issue that every country is facing. The
statistics showed that 47% of adults experience mobile addiction (Pew Research Center) 60% of
teens feel addicted to their mobiles (Common Sense Media)Mobile addiction increases stress,
anxiety, and depression by 20% (University of California, Irvine). The statistics entail that
mobile addiction makes its widespread because of different causes such the use of social media.
In social media, there is an endless scrolling, notifications, and fear of missing out (FOMO)
contribute to addiction, instant gratification with quick access to information, entertainment, and
rewards stimulates dopamine release. Convenience, mobiles offer ease and portability, making
them indispensable. Stress and anxiety, mobiles serve as coping mechanisms, providing
temporary escapes. These are the reasons why people use their phones too much without even
minding its consequences,
Mobile addiction ruins everything that has been composed for a long time. It diverts our energy,
full of negativities and toxicities. Mobile addiction has been the source of anxiety, depression,
decreases attention span. It also ruin our physical health as it gives us sleep deprivation, eye
strain, and decreased physical activity. It strains our relationship with our family and friends,
decreases face to face interaction and isolation. Lastly, it decreases our focus, reduces work
efficiency and misses opportunities.
The question is , how long do we able to suffer this kind of phenomenon? When we’ll find
solutions to lessen this issue? Now is the time to redeem what needs to redeem. The only thing to
lessen the mobile addiction is that we have to set boundaries, establishing screen-free zones and
times, utilize website blockers, app trackers and phone limiting features, engage in hobbies,
exercise and social events. These solutions can be simple yet cliché solutions but these help us to
aid mobile addiction.
Mobile addiction is a pressing issue, affecting individuals, communities, and society as a whole.
By understanding its causes, acknowledging its effects, and implementing solutions, we can
mitigate the risks associated with excessive mobile usage. Responsible mobile use requires
discipline, awareness, and a commitment to maintaining a healthy balance between technology
and life.
