Laundry

The document outlines the design and implementation of a laundry management system (LMS) aimed at addressing common issues faced by laundry firms, such as clothing mix-ups and delays in retrieval. It discusses the historical context of laundry technology and identifies problems with manual systems, including time consumption and poor communication. The research focuses on developing an online LMS specifically for the Somali premium laundry system, with objectives to study existing systems, design a new one, and evaluate its effectiveness.

ABSTRACT

We present the design and implementation of a

laundry management system (LMS) used in a
laundry establishment. Laundry firms are usually
faced with difficulties in keeping detailed records
of customers clothing; this little problem as seen
to most laundry firms is highly discouraging as
customers are filled with disappointments,
arising from issues such as customer clothes
mix-ups and untimely retrieval of clothes. The
aim of this application is to determine the
number of clothes collected, in relation to their
owners, as this also helps the users fix a date
for the collection of their clothes. Also
customer’s information is secured, as a specific
id is allocated per registration to avoid
contrasting information.

1.0 Introduction
This Chapter gives details the Background of online laundry management
system and introduces the main problems and research questions to get the
required objective to the scope of the project
and it’s significant of study.

1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

In 1797, the scrub board—the first washing machine—was created. In 1851,
James King, an American, received a patent for the first drum-operated washing
machine. The rotary washing machine was patented by Hamilton Smith in 1858.
The rotary washing machine was patented by Hamilton Smith in 1858. Wasiam
Blackstone of Indiana constructed a birthday gift for his wife in 1874. It was a
device that cleaned and removed filth from clothing. The original washing
machines were intended for domestic use. The first electric-powered washing
machine (the Thor) was introduced in 1908, by the Hurley Machine Company of
Chicago, Illinois. Alva J. Fisher was the inventor. The machine was a drum type
with a galvanised tub and an electric motor, for which a patent was issued on
August 9, 1910 (US patent #966677). Here is an example of a 1910 model.
Check out Lee Maxwell's collection of over 600 vintage and unusual washing
machines. Read about his patents for vintage washing machines. Now, a little
background on some well-known washing machine companies. The Maytag
Corporation was founded in 1893 when F.L. Maytag started making farm
implements in Newton, Iowa. When :Originally established as the Upton Machine
Co. in 1911 in St. Joseph, Michigan, the Whirlpool Corporation manufactured
electric motor-driven wringer washers.
The origins of the Schulte Group go back over 150 years. Here are
some history that involves washing machines for the below:
1978—Launch of first microchip-controlled automatic washing machines
1951—Production of Europe's first automatic washing machines
1949 - Invention of punched card control for washing machines
1904—Production of the first washing machines.
According to Iain et al. (2006), people first got dirt out of their clothes by
pounding them on rocks and washing the dirt away in streams. Sand was
used as an abrasive to free the dirt. Soap was discovered at Rome's Sapo Hill.
where ashes containing the fat of sacrificial animals were found to have good
cleaning powers.
Clothes dryers were first invented in England and France in the early 1800s.
One kind of early clothes dryer was the ventilator. The ventilator was a
barrel-shaped metal drum with holes in it. It was turned by hand over a fire.
One of the earliest patents for clothes dryer (U.S. patent #476,416) was
received by George T. Sampson on June 7, 1892. Samson also patented a
sled propeller (U.S. patent #312,388) on February 17th, 1885. Electrical
Clothes dryers appeared around 1915. Laundry powder (CHAPTER ONE, n.d.)

1.2 Statement of the Problem

The use of manual system also create an additional workload for staff to keep
and obtain the
customer and staff information because this information is kept in a different file.
1. Time Consumption: Manual systems are time consuming, as the business
owner must
keep track of Laundry sales on a daily basis, while updating the system manually
at the end
of the day.
2. Poor Communication: A manual Laundry system requires employees and
managers to
write down each time a services been processed in the Laundry. If one employee
forgets to
mention that the last cloths has been brought to the Laundry, a manager expects
there is
not cloths brought to the Laundry. Compared with a technical Laundry system, a
manual
Laundry system does not help the communication in the workplace.
3. Physical Counts: A manual Laundry system does not provide any number, as
all numbers
from the Laundry are gained through physical Laundry counts. One of the
difficulties of
running a manual Laundry system is that physical Laundry counts must be
performed
frequently to control the services in the Laundry. This is time consuming and can
cost the
business money, if employees must come in to help out outside of business
hours.

1.3 RESEARCH Objectives

The research objectives of the study as the follows:-
1. To study the current system existing laundry management system
2.To design , develop, and propose using DFD
3. To implement , Test and evaluate the proposed system

1.4 RESEARCH QUESTIONS

The research questions of the study are the follows:-
1. How was the background of laundry management system in past
literature?
2. How was being developing online laundry management system?

1.6 THE SCOPE OF THE PROJECT

There are many countries that use online laundry mgt system but this
research only limit to the Somali premium laundry system , this laundry
performs service for the customers for cleaning and washing and others ,
this research focus on laundry in ironing and washing , the final product of
the research project was be the complete online laundry mgt system, this
system was be developing in ….. as front end and ……. as
back end, the research was be taken …….. up to …….. months in
…….;.

1.7 Significance of the Study

The researchers was not only provide information and develop a Somali
premium laundry, but was also gain knowledge and help them develop their
skills when it comes to web-based applications and for their professional
career in the future. Through this system,
