5e's Lesson Plan - 075918
Grade 3
I. OBJECTIVES/LESSON OUTCOMES
At the end of the lesson, the learners are expected to:
a. Describe the characteristics of different objects based on the shape
and the space they occupy; and
b. Classify the objects and materials as solid, liquid and gas according
to some observable characteristics.
B. Lesson Proper
1. Engage
The teacher will introduce the topic by asking some questions.
2. Explore
The teacher will show a picture of random objects, and the students will
describe what they observe in the pictures.
3. Explain
Today, we are going to tackle about matter and it’s three states.
Matter- is anything that occupies space and has mass.
Solid
Solids have a definite shape and volume. The particles in a solid
are tightly packed together, often in a regular pattern, and they only
vibrate in place. This close packing gives solids their rigidity and
resistance to changes in shape and volume. Because of this, solids
maintain a fixed shape unless an external force is applied.
Liquid
Liquids have a definite volume but no fixed shape. They take the
shape of their container. The particles in a liquid are less tightly
packed than in a solid and can move around each other, which
allows liquids to flow. Liquids are also relatively incompressible and
have a fixed volume, meaning they occupy a consistent amount of
space.
Gas
Gases do not have a definite shape or volume. They can expand to
fill any container they are placed in. The particles in a gas are far
apart and move freely, which allows gases to spread out and mix
with other gases easily. Gases can be compressed much more than
solids or liquids because there is more space between the particles.
4. Elaborate
The teacher will assign the students to group themselves into four
and each group will make a list of objects or materials they see at
home and classify them into solid, liquid and gas, they will also list
down the objects which they are in doubt of its classification.
IV. EVALUATION
Activity 1:
Direction: Write “true” if the statement is correct and “false” if it is wrong
in the blank space before the number.
_______1. Solid has a definite shape.
_______2. Liquid do not flow freely.
_______3. Matter doesn’t occupy space.
_______4. Everything around us is matter.
_______5. Gases have a definite shape.
Activity 2:
Directions: Determine whether the object is solid, liquid or gas.
_______1. Milk _______6. Stones
_______2. Air _______7. Juice
_______3. Television _______8. Steam
_______4. Paper _______9. Wire
_______5. Carbon dioxide _______10. Sweat
V. ASSIGNMENT
Appreciating things you use everyday is a good trait. What is your favorite
thing that you use everyday and in which state of matter does it belong?
Describe the object.
