Abstract
Agriculture is the backbone of the economy, and greenhouses play a vital role in ensuring
crop growth under controlled environmental conditions. Traditional greenhouse monitoring
requires manual intervention, which is inefficient and prone to human error. The integration
of IoT (Internet of Things) and cloud computing enables real-time monitoring and
automation, improving crop yield and reducing resource wastage. The primary objective of
this project is to design and implement an automated greenhouse monitoring system using
IoT technology. The system will track essential environmental parameters such as
temperature, humidity, soil moisture. The collected data will be analyzed and stored in the
cloud, allowing remote access and control. The system is built using sensors connected to a
microcontroller (Arduino) to collect real-time data. Temperature and humidity sensors
measure climatic conditions, a soil moisture sensor detects water levels. The data is
transmitted to a cloud platform using Wi-Fi or GSM modules, enabling remote access
through a web or mobile application. If any parameter crosses a predefined threshold,
automated actions (such as turning on irrigation) are triggered. The developed system
successfully provides real-time data visualization and automated control, leading to improved
plant health and optimized resource usage. Farmers can remotely monitor and manage
greenhouse conditions, reducing manual labour and operational costs. The system also
ensures timely irrigation, preventing plant stress and enhancing crop yield. The
implementation of an IoT-based greenhouse monitoring system enhances precision
agriculture by automating environmental control and providing real-time insights. This smart
approach not only increases efficiency but also promotes sustainable farming practices.
Future advancements could include AI-driven analytics for predictive maintenance and
further automation.
