Design progress report Brief. Site Area – 1200 sqm (to be reduced according to requirement) Location – Thirtahalli, Karnataka, India. Ownership – APMC or Mamcos Thirtahalli. Status – Vaccant land. Site Benefits Location – Located at the junction of three highways Connectivity – Connected by 3 NH which don’t have rest stops more than 10KMs Surrounding – Surrounded by the commercial zones which don’t have access to public toilet nearby. Context – easy water service due to nearby WTP and topography. Foot fall – Public movement around the is more due to the surrounding commercial zone. Located in the town which has the visitors such as tourists from the Bengaluru, Chikkamagaluru, Udupi, Manglore, Sirsi, Shivamogga, Dakshina Kannada. Due to its connectivity. Surrounding environment – Surrounded by the greenery of tropical forest with hills. Cool environment with temperature upto 24 degree celcius. Users – Expected to be having footfall by tourists, truckers, Locals, Co – workers. Estimates No of vehicles – 3 vehicles/ 10 sec, 720 vehicles per hour,720x 12 hours= 8640 vehicles. No of people – Avereage 2/ vehicle,17280 people in 12 hours Total of 17280 of tourist and people with vehicle are estimated to pass through site. Aprrox 2000 people will access toilet daily. No of toilet required – 10 toilets, 4 Men, 4 Women( Cubic), 8 Urinals Other spaces – Mother care, Periodical spaces. Spaces and features. Central core Cubical toilets Urinals Handwash Mothercare Truckers resting and bathing point Truck parking Janitor or maintenance service Periodical section for women. Structure and Design Minimal and creative Structural well and crisp Cost effective Water services Following essence of vernacular typology Interior and material with easy maintenance Following bylaws and regulations. Case Study Chang’an Plaza Citizen Service Station 333 sqm area Located at public park which adds the function of pavilion to toilet. Undulated roofing is provided which adds volume to the interior. Interior is provided with black brutal concrete finish which defines volume of the space, The outer walls are used as a projector by the public for short movie watching. And many more features that are defined in that single space such as studio or discussion room and resting area.
Overall design gives an conclusion that the space is not meant to be
used as a toilet but also an pavilion, this design taken out from people’s mind that the toilet is a untouchable smelly space to a interactive homely space.
