INTRODUCTION

One of the goals of the K to 12 Basic Education Program is to develop in learners,

the competencies, work ethic, and values relevant to pursuing further education and/or

joining the world of work. To achieve greater congruence between basic education and

the nation’s development targets, Work Immersion, a required subject, has been

incorporated into the curriculum. This subject will provide learners with opportunities:

1. to become familiar with the workplace;

2. for employment simulation; and

3. to apply their competencies in areas of specialization, applied subjects in the

authentic work environment.

To achieve the above objectives, Work Immersion is thus a requirement for

graduation from secondary education. Learners are immersed in actual work

environments such as workshops, offices, and laboratories in which their prior pieces of

training are relevant. Work Immersion is one of the course requirements for graduation.

A Senior High School student has to undergo Work Immersion in an industry that

directly relates to the student's post-secondary goal. Through Work Immersion, the

students are exposed to and become familiar with work-related to their field of

specialization to enhance their competence. Specifically, the students can:

i. gain relevant and practical industrial skills under the guidance of industry experts and

workers;

ii. appreciate the importance and application of the principles, the theories taught in

school;

iii. enhance their technical knowledge and skills;

iv. enrich their skills in communications and human relations; and

v. develop good work habits, attitudes, appreciation, and respect for work

These prepare them to meet the needs and the challenges of employment of higher

education after graduation.

1

Objectives of the Work Immersion

Work Immersion will help develop among the learners' life and career skills, and

will prepare them to make decisions on post-secondary education or employment.

Through partnership building, DepEd hopes that the Partner Institutions will provide

learners with Work Immersion opportunities, workplace or hands-on experience, and

additional learning resources. It aims to make the learners;

1. appreciate the importance and application of the principles and theories learned in

school;

2. enhance their technical knowledge and skills;

3. enrich their skills in communications and human relations; and

4. develop good work habits, attitudes, appreciation, and respect for work

By the time learners reach Senior High School, they would have already acquired

almost all the competencies and skills that would prepare them for the curriculum exits

(higher education, employment, middle-skills development, and entrepreneurship).

Work Immersion provides them with an avenue to test themselves and apply what they

have learned in a non-school scenario. In work immersion, learners are not only able to

apply their previous training but are also able to experience the social interactions in a

work environment. Their experiences during work immersion will develop many skills

and values that would help them as they transition from high school to real life.

To assure the achievement of the above objectives of Work Immersion, this

policy serves to guide schools in:

1. creating flexible work immersion arrangements for their learners;

2. providing options or work immersion that are relevant to purposes and needs; and

3. organizing work Immersion opportunities for learners that are consistent with the

diverse human resource requirements, partner institutions for work immersion;

and

Articulating the scope and limits of work immersion in the context of basic

education when building relationships with work immersion partners.

2

Duration and Place of Work Immersion

Work immersion entails an 80-hour commitment, enabling trainees to familiarize

themselves with a professional environment, engage in simulated work scenarios, and

apply their skills in specialized areas. This work immersion program was conducted at

the Philippine National Police in Barangay San Fabian, Echague, Isabela, Philippines. It

started on December 4, 2024, and concluded on December 14, 2024.

HISTORY OF PNP

Echague Police Department was created on January 1, 1935, with the strength of

thirteen (13) policemen, including the Chief of Police Felix Atip, who was appointed by

the incumbent Municipal Mayor Hon. Jose Carabbacan. Periodic changes took place as

every elected municipal mayor appointed his own choice to be a policeman for the

protection of his political career. By PD 765 brought forth a new concept for the police

organization as it provided for the creation of the Integrated National Police which will

be under the control, supervision, and direction of the Philippine Constabulary.

The police department was changed into a Police Station while the Chief of the

Police was renamed Station Commander. However, by Republic Act 6975, the

Integrated National Police and Philippine Constabulary were abolished and were merged

into one umbrella organization, the Philippine National Police which is under the

Department of the Interior and Local Government. The Police head the Station

Commander, who was again renamed Chief of Police, who will be under the operational

supervision and control of the municipality mayor. The incumbent municipal mayor of

Echague, Isabela.

The newly built Echague Police Station was situated at the Southern portion of

the municipal compound of Echague, situated in Brgy. San Fabian. It is a three (3) storey

“Type B” station building built with concrete materials. Bounded on the North sets Brgy.

Castillo, on the East consists of Brgy. Tuguegarao, in the West by Brgy. Angoluan, and

in the South having Brgy. Silauan Sur.

JOURNAL

December 04, 2024 / Day 01

On the first day of our immersion at the Philippine National Police (PNP), I

arrived at 7:30 AM. I saw students from Northeastern College (NC) standing in training

and counting off to check for absentees. Once they were finished, we followed their

example and formed our formation.

Afterward, we went ahead to the back of the police station, where the NC students

taught us about two important sections: Karapatan sa Tao (Human Rights) and Karapatan

sa Nasasakupan (Rights Within Jurisdiction). They also explained the difference between

homicide and murder, which helped deepen my understanding of legal distinctions in

criminal cases.

By 11:30 AM, we gathered once again for training before being dismissed for

lunch. We returned at 1:30 PM, where we were taught proper marching techniques. We

spent almost two hours practicing, ensuring that we followed commands with discipline

and precision. After a 30-minute break, we performed the formation and counting routine

once more before being dismissed at 5:00 PM.

Learning about Karapatan sa Tao and Karapatan sa Nasasakupan reinforced the

importance of human rights and the legal boundaries that law enforcement must use

within. This experience taught me valuable lessons in respecting human rights,

understanding the law, discipline, and teamwork—qualities that are essential in both law

enforcement and everyday life.

JOURNAL

December 05, 2024 / Day 02

On the second day of our immersion, we arrived at the police station at 8:00 AM.

However, we had to wait for some of my classmates who were delayed due to the rain. At

9:00 AM, we began our marching practice, which showed significant improvement and

was nearly perfected after an hour. Following a 15-minute break, we resumed practice for

another hour. Before being dismissed for lunch at 11:30 AM, we lined up for roll call.

Throughout the day, I observed how the police officers interacted with the public

and carried out their daily routines. After lunch, we had a brief marching session

followed by a 15-minute exercise. After another short rest period, we were called for roll

call once more and were dismissed early.

This experience directly relates to my future career, as it gave me a deeper

understanding of the importance of discipline, teamwork, and physical fitness within the

police force. I learned that maintaining discipline, physical readiness, teamwork, and

effective communication are essential values to nurture as I pursue a career in this field

JOURNAL

December 06, 2024 / Day 03

On the third day of my work immersion at the police station, I arrived at 7:55

AM. Upon my arrival, we gathered in the designated area and waited for the rest of our

classmates, as several were still unaccounted for. Once more students had arrived, we

were instructed to get haircuts, a requirement that our teacher had previously mentioned

for the immersion. We returned at 9:45 AM. Our first task involved cleaning trash bins,

followed by a roll call. We were dismissed for the morning at 11:00 AM.

After returning at 1:30 PM, we practiced marching in the evacuation area.

Following a brief break, we met with Mespo for further instructions. We then lined up

again and were dismissed for the day at 5:00 PM.

This experience is connected to my future career, as it highlighted the significance

of discipline, responsibility, and attention to detail—qualities that are vital in law

enforcement. The requirement for a proper haircut reminded me of the professional

standards that police officers must uphold, which include maintaining a neat and orderly

appearance...

JOURNAL

December 07, 2024 / Day 04

I arrived at 7:55 AM and waited for my classmates to gather. Once everyone was

present, a police officer instructed us to form up, and latecomers were not permitted to

sit. We then attended a lecture from the 7th section about the roles and responsibilities of

police officers. Following that, we learned about firearms, including how to disassemble

and use them, as well as essential gun safety protocols. Afterward, we lined up to leave

with instructions to return by 1:30 PM, although I ended up arriving a minute late.

In the afternoon, we worked on creating a poster about drug avoidance and

presented it after an hour. The police officers reminded us to arrive early for Monday's

flag ceremony before dismissing us for the day.

This experience is relevant to my future career, particularly if I choose to pursue a

role in law enforcement or a related field. The lecture on the duties and responsibilities of

police officers offered valuable insight into the profession, emphasizing the importance

of discipline and dedication to serving the community.

11
JOURNAL

December 09, 2024 / Day 05

On the fifth day of my immersion program, I arrived at 7:40 AM, expecting a flag

ceremony that was unfortunately canceled due to rain. This caused some delays for

participants, and we found ourselves waiting for several hours as the police officers were

engaged in meetings. We were eventually able to move forward by 10:00 AM.

The morning session included a speech by a pastor on the topic of personal

integrity and the challenges facing today’s generation, followed by a prayer. I returned at

1:25 PM to assist in creating posters focused on drug prevention. We then waited at the

rear of the police station for further instructions, as the officers continued to be occupied.

This experience is directly relevant to my future career, as it emphasizes the

importance of integrity, patience, and community outreach—values that are crucial in law

enforcement. The discussion on personal integrity served as a reminder that police

officers must uphold high standards and act as role models within our community.

JOURNAL

December 10, 2024 / Day 06

On the sixth day of our immersion, we gathered at 8:00 AM for a marching

exercise, completing it by 9:30 AM. We took a break while awaiting further instructions

from the police officers, during which I took the opportunity to write in my journal.

Afterward, we assembled in front of the police station, and I was allowed to go

home by 11:00 AM, with a reminder to return by 12:55 PM. In the afternoon, we

marched again, this time in a more organized manner. However, due to some errors, the

exercise took longer than expected, and we received a reprimand. This experience

underscored the importance of following instructions diligently.

This activity is relevant to my future career as it emphasizes the critical roles of

discipline, attention to detail, and adherence to procedures in law enforcement. Although

the marching exercise may seem basic, it highlighted how coordination and precision are

essential for maintaining order and efficiency—qualities that are vital in police work.
13
JOURNAL

December 11, 2024 / Day 07

On the seventh day of our immersion, we gathered in front of the police station

for a marching exercise. After completing the march, the police officers gave us a brief

lecture and asked about our intended college courses. We then regrouped, but before we

finished, we were instructed to go home by 1:00 PM due to a scheduled event at the

municipality. After returning home on time, we waited for further instructions. During

this time, the officer asked us to help carry rice, which we completed promptly.

This activity is connected to my future career, as it highlighted the importance of

discipline, adaptability, and teamwork—qualities that are essential in law enforcement.

The marching exercise reinforced the need for precision and coordination, while the brief

lecture and interaction with the officers emphasized the value of clear communication

and continuous learning in any professional setting.

14

JOURNAL

December 12, 2024 / Day 08

On the eighth day of our work immersion, I had the opportunity to converse with

a police officer while waiting for my peers to arrive. During our discussion, the officer

gave valuable career advice related to my intended course of study. He suggested an

alternative course that might help with easier job placement, which broadened my

perspective on potential career paths.

The day's activities included a marching exercise and a lecture delivered by a

pastor, followed by a brief prayer session. We also attended an informative presentation

on child abuse led by a high-ranking officer, which enhanced our understanding of this

critical issue.

Through these experiences, I gained valuable insights into the steps I should take

for my chosen career path. The police officer emphasized that pursuing a different

college course does not preclude me from following a career in criminology.

Additionally, I improved my listening skills and learned to formulate effective follow-up

questions during our discussions.

15
JOURNAL

December 13, 2024 / Day 09

On the ninth day of our work immersion, we gathered as a group to take

attendance while waiting for our tasks. A police officer arrived to give a lecture, so we

settled in to listen. He discussed the serious topic of rape cases, explaining that the

penalties for such crimes could vary from 20 to 40 years in prison. He also covered the

three elements of sexual assault, which deepened my understanding of the various forms

of sexual offenses.

After the lecture, we came together to prepare for our departure. We made a quick

trip home for lunch, knowing we needed to be on time to avoid any reprimands. Since

Ma'am Mespo and the police officers were unavailable in the afternoon, we didn't have

many activities and were allowed to leave early. We got home by 4:30 PM, reflecting on

the valuable lessons we had learned that day.

This experience truly broadened my understanding of these cases and their

multiple implications. I am eager to enhance my knowledge and delve deeper into this

essential information.

16

JOURNAL

December 14, 2024 / Day 10

Today marks our final day at the PNP. I arrived at 7 AM as usual. We gathered

for roll call, but the police officers were preoccupied, and some of my classmates were

facing issues, so the officers paid little attention to us. Consequently, we moved back to
await further instructions. Eventually, we were dismissed at 11:50 AM. I returned at 1

PM to fulfill the hours needed on our last day.

While waiting, we were assigned the task of cleaning the trash bins. Afterward,

we took a break and waited for the next set of instructions. As we had been waiting for

quite some time, it was already afternoon by the time we finished, marking the

conclusion of Day 10.

This experience has significant relevance to my future studies, as it highlighted

the realities of law enforcement dynamics. I gained valuable insights into the importance

of patience, adaptability, and teamwork in a fast-paced and unpredictable environment.

17

Observation and Insights

During my work immersion at PNP Echague, I saw a supportive environment for

students, particularly those pursuing a degree in criminology. The immersion provided a

solid foundation that helped enhance our knowledge and develop practical skills essential

for our future careers.

Becoming a successful police officer can be challenging, but the guidance and

mentorship from experienced professionals bridged the gap between our immersion and
real-world work. We were introduced to various aspects of law enforcement, including

public service, the importance of good manners, and discipline, all of which are crucial

for building strong management skills.

Additionally, the immersion experience allowed me to witness the teamwork and

camaraderie among officers, which is vital in facing difficult situations. I saw how they

depend on one another to ensure the success of their missions, whether during

investigations, patrols, or handling emergencies. Their ability to work together,

communicate effectively, and make quick decisions under pressure left a lasting

impression on me. I recognized how important it is for police officers to keep a balanced

approach while fulfilling their duties.

Overall, this immersion provided me with a deeper understanding of what it truly

means to be a police officer, beyond the uniform and badge. It has inspired me to

consider law enforcement as a potential career path, knowing that it requires both a keen

sense of duty and compassion for others.

18

Overall Reflection

Reflecting on my work immersion experience with the PNP Echague, I am

grateful for the opportunity to learn about law enforcement. This experience revealed the

true responsibilities of being a police officer, which extend far beyond merely enforcing

laws.

Before this, I thought being a police officer was mostly about giving orders.

However, I learned that it requires discipline, emotional intelligence, and the ability to
stay calm under pressure. Police officers must understand various situations and show

compassion, which I had not fully grasped before.

One key lesson I learned was the importance of teamwork. I observed how officers relied

on each other’s strengths while on patrol or responding to emergencies. Their effective

communication and support for one another showed me that collaboration is essential in

this field and in any career I may choose.

Additionally, I noticed the emotional strength displayed by the officers. They

handled difficult and sometimes traumatic situations with remarkable calmness,

underscoring that law enforcement is about understanding people and managing sensitive

scenarios with empathy.

Overall, my immersion taught me that being a police officer demands

intelligence, quick thinking, and professionalism. I gained valuable insights into the

challenges and responsibilities of law enforcement, and I appreciate the lessons of

teamwork and emotional intelligence that I can carry forward into my future.

20

Self-Appraisal
This immersion experience has highlighted the significant impact of laws on our

community and the importance of building trust with the public. I’ve realized that

effective law enforcement goes beyond enforcement; it’s about promoting security,

fairness, and justice for all.

As a Grade 12 student, I am inspired to consider a career in law enforcement. I

understand it requires dedication, resilience, and a deep connection with the community,

and I appreciate the challenges faced by those in this profession.

I have gained insights into teamwork, discipline, and responsibility. I will

continue to reflect on these lessons and strive to improve my character, aiming to follow

in the footsteps of dedicated law enforcement professionals.

21

Recommendation

I recommend that our school prioritize instilling a greater sense of discipline

among our students. This approach will foster a more productive and respectful learning

environment. Additionally, we can enhance students' learning experiences by offering

engaging and challenging tasks, such as modules and hands-on projects. These activities

will not only promote active participation and critical thinking but also help students

develop valuable skills that will help their academic and professional futures.
To future work immersion students, it is crucial to be mindful of the practices you

adopt during your time at the agency. Avoid any unhealthy habits or shortcuts that may

compromise the quality of your work or hinder your professional growth. Always

remember to follow the guidance and instructions of those in higher positions. They own

the experience and knowledge necessary to guide you in the right direction, helping you

develop the essential skills and mindset for success.

Lastly, I recommend that the PNP (Philippine National Police) conduct more

orientations to teach students relevant skills and knowledge they can apply during their

immersion. I also suggest allowing students to take part in police duties outside the

station to further enhance their skills for their future careers. Finally, students should

engage in outreach programs to deepen their understanding of the police's role in our

community.
