2.A charged particle q is shot towards another charged particle Q which
is fixed, with a speed v. It approaches Q upto a closest distance r and
then returns. If q were given a speed 2v, the closest distances of
approach would be

(A)r
(B)2r
(C)r/2
(D)r/4
Ans.
D
Sol.
Charge q will momentarily come to rest at a distance r from charge Q
when all it's kinetic energy converted to potential energy

Therefore the distance of closest approach is given by

Hence if v is doubled, r becomes one fourth.

(B)A → p; B → q, r ; C → r; D → q
(C)A → r; B → p; C → r; D → q
(D)A → p; B → q; C → r; D → r, s
Ans.
A
Sol.
a. By inserting dielectric slab, capacitance of 1 increases thereby
increasing charge on capacitor. Thus, more charge flows through the
battery. Energy stored in capacitor also increases.
b. By increasing separation between the plates, capacitance of C1
decreases. Charge on C2 also decreases.
c. By shorting capacitor 1, only capacitor 2 remains in the circuit.
Potential difference across C2 increases, ther by increasing charge on 2
as well as energy stored.
d. By earthing plate of capacitor 1, potentials will change but there will
be no change potential difference, making no overall change in the
circuit.
