TEACHER’S ACTIVITY
STUDENT’S ACTIVITY
A. Preliminaries
1. Prayer The teacher will play the video of prayer.
(Students are praying)
Good morning Grade 5!
2. Greetings Good morning, Teacher! Good
morning classmates! Good morning!
3. Checking of Who are absent today?
attendance No one is absent, teacher.

4. Setting of Before you sit down, kindly pick up any pieces of

classroom paper under your chair and once you're settled,
standards please be reminded of our classroom standards
1. Listen attentively.
2. Follow instructions promptly.
3. Raise your hand to speak.
4. Participate actively.
5. Respect everyone’s answers.

B. Activating “Let’s have a quick review! Who can name the “Typhoons, thunderstorms,
Prior different types of weather disturbances?” tornadoes, monsoons, and tropical
Knowledge depressions.”

Short “Great! What happens during a typhoon?” “There are strong winds and heavy
Review: rain that can cause flooding and
damage.”
“Awesome! well done!”
C. Establishing Introducing Novita & Doraemon’s Pocket
Lesson/
Motivation " Before we start our lesson, our friend Novita
has a question! He always wonders why the
Moon changes shape every night. Have you ever “Yes teacher, sometimes it's round,
noticed this?" sometimes it's small!”

(Teacher brings out Doraemon.)

"Doraemon is here to help us find the answer!

Inside his magical pocket, there are items that
will help us understand why the Moon changes
shape. Who wants to pick an item?" (Students raise their hands)

"Alright! Let’s pick some volunteers to take one (Students take turns pulling out
object from the pocket and describe it." objects: a flashlight, a ball, and a
picture of the Moon.)

"Hmm... we have a flashlight, a ball, and a

picture of the Moon. What do you think these "About the Moon?"
objects have in common?"

"Yes! These objects will help us learn about the

different phases of the Moon. Let’s find out
how!"

📝 Teacher now pastes the objectives on the

board.
📌 Objectives: (Reads the objectives)
1️⃣ Identify and describe the different phases of
the Moon.
2️⃣ Work together to understand why the Moon
appears to change.
3️⃣ Create a model of the Moon’s phases.

"These objectives will guide us as we explore

the phases of the Moon. Let’s begin!"
D. Presentation "Now the ball represents the Moon and the
flashlight represents the Sun, let's explore how
the Moon changes shape in the sky.

The Moon doesn’t actually change shape—it

just looks different because of how the sunlight
reflects on it as it orbits the Earth. This is what
we call the 'phases of the Moon.' There are
eight main phases that repeat in a cycle every
month."

🌑 New Moon – The Moon is completely dark

because it's between the Earth and the Sun.
🌒 Waxing Crescent – A small part of the Moon
starts to light up on the right side.
🌓 First Quarter – Half of the Moon is visible.
🌔 Waxing Gibbous – Almost a full Moon is
showing.
🌕 Full Moon – The entire Moon is bright!
🌖 Waning Gibbous – The light starts to
decrease.
🌗 Last Quarter – Half of the Moon is visible
again, but on the left side.
🌘 Waning Crescent – A small sliver of light
remains before the cycle starts over.
"Before we dive into an experiment, let's first
watch a short simulation on the phases of the
Moon to visualize how they change over time.
Pay close attention to how the light from the
Sun affects the Moon's appearance. After that,
we’ll do a simple experiment.

"Great! Now that we've seen the simulation, (Watch video)

let's bring it to life with a simple experiment. I
need a volunteer to be the 'Earth' and another
to be the 'Moon.' As the 'Moon' moves around
the 'Earth,' we'll observe how light from the
'Sun'—represented by this flashlight—affects its (Two students stand in the center of
appearance. the room. The ‘Earth’ stays in place
while the ‘Moon’ walks in a circle
Now, I will shine the flashlight on the 'Moon.' around them holding the ball.)
Everyone, observe what happens to the ball as
it moves around. What do you notice?"
"The light on the ball changes!"
"That’s right! that’s how the Moon’s phases
occur!"

"Now, let’s check if you were listening! I will

describe a Moon phase, and you have to slowly
turn the Earth in our model. As the Moon moves
around it, match the correct phase based on my
description. Raise your hand if you want to
answer!"

Questions:

1️⃣ This Moon phase is completely dark because

the Sun is shining on the side we cannot see
from Earth. What is it? (Answer: New Moon)

2️⃣ Half of the Moon is visible, and it is (Teacher describes different phases
increasing in size. What phase is this? (Answer: while students respond.)
First Quarter)

3️⃣ The Moon appears fully bright in the sky.

What phase is this? (Answer: Full Moon)

"Great job, everyone! Now, let's apply what

we've learned with a fun group activity!"
E. Applicatio "For our activity, we will work in groups to
n (Group reinforce our understanding of the Moon’s
Work/Perf phases!"
ormance
Task) (20 minutes Activity)

🔵 Group 1: Moon Phase Flashcard

Arrangement

 Arrange the Moon phase flashcards in

the correct order, starting from the New
Moon to the Waning Crescent.
 Discuss with your group and explain why
you arranged them that way.

🌕 Group 2: Act It Out!

 Use a flashlight (Sun), a ball (Moon), and

a student (Earth) to demonstrate how
the Moon's phases change.
 Show the correct positions and explain
what happens in each phase.

🎨 Group 3: Creative Poster

 Draw and label the phases of the Moon

on a poster.
 Be creative and use colors to make it
visually appealing!

🍪 Group 4: Moon Oreo Activity

• Use Oreo cookies to model the different
phases of the Moon.
• Carefully remove the top cookie and shape
the cream to represent each phase.
• Arrange the Oreos in order and label each
phase correctly.
F. Generalization “To wrap up our discussion for today, who can “The Moon has eight phases: New
summarize the different phases of the Moon Moon, Waxing Crescent, First
and how they occur?” Quarter, Waxing Gibbous, Full
Moon, Waning Gibbous, Last
Quarter, and Waning Crescent.”

“The phases of the Moon change

because of its position in relation to
the Earth and the Sun.”
“Very good! Do you have any questions?”

Always remember, the Moon doesn’t change

shape, it only appears to because of how the
light from the Sun hits it. Good job today,
everyone!”

IV. EVALUATION
Directions:

A. Answer the following questions about the phases of the Moon. (5 points – 1 point each)

1. What is the phase of the Moon when it is completely dark and not visible from Earth? __________
2. During which phase is the entire Moon fully illuminated? __________
3. What do we call the phase when the right half of the Moon is visible and increasing in size? __________
4. What phase follows the Waxing Crescent? __________
5. What is the opposite of the Waxing Gibbous phase? __________

B. Draw and label the phases of the Moon. (5 points – 1 point each)
6. Draw the New Moon and label it.
7. Draw the Full Moon and label it.
8. Draw and label any Waxing phase (Crescent or Gibbous).
9. Draw and label any Waning phase (Crescent or Gibbous).
10. Show the correct sequence by connecting your drawings with arrows.
V. ASSIGNMENT
Observe the Moon each night for seven days. Take a picture or draw its shape and write a short description of
