Critical Path:
The Critical Path for the project is (E10 – E20 – E30 – E40 – E60 – E90) With total project
duration equal to 9 days

Target Plan and Resource Allocation


Assignment #1-A: No Constrains

Max Labour Effort = 8 workers (Day 7) * 9 Days (Total Duration) = 72 man – day
Used Labour Effort = Total number of workers in all days = 36 man – day
Labour Utilization = 36/72 = 50%
Assignment #1-B: Constrain: Max 4 workers in a day

Therefore, total duration will be 10 Days


Max Labour Effort = 4workers * 10 Days (Total Duration) = 40 man – day
Used Labour Effort = Total number of workers in all days = 36 man – day
Labour Utilization = 36/40 = 90%
Assignment #1-C: Constrain: Max Duration is 7 Days

Project Duration: 7 Days


Workers will be increased in Day 1 and Day 4 for 8 workers
Max Labour Effort = 8 workers * 7 Days (Total Duration) = 56 man – day
Used Labour Effort = Total number of workers in all days = 36 man – day
Labour Utilization = 36/56 = 64%
Assignment #1-D: Constrain: Max Workers is 4 per day & Max Duration is 7 Days
To be able to solve this constrains we need to let the activities overlap each other, but since that
all of them are Finish to Start relation. It’s not possible to maintain both constrains therefore, we
need either to increase the work limit or the duration of the project.

Assignment 1-E: No Constrains


Since no max worker constraint is given, the plan could ensure tasks are done sequentially or
parallel based on available labor.
Case 1: If it’s done sequentially: (The Traditional way)
Each unit requires:
 3 + 2 + 1 + 1 = 7 hours
 Total effort for 4 units = 4 × 7 = 28 hours
Case 2: If it’s done in parallel:

Case 3:

Case 1: Project Duration = 28 working hours assuming the traditional way (not preferable)
Case 2: Project Duration = 15 working hours assuming each activity for each unit starts after the
other.
Case 3: Project Duration = 7 working hours assuming that each unit has its own workers and the
units are getting installed simultaneously.
However, if the same number of workers are working on all 4 units the project duration will
differ by overlapping the activities between each unit.
Assignment 1-F
Constrains: Max 3 Engineers per day and maximum duration = 16 working hrs
