The document provides an overview of essential components of a camera, including the body, lens, shutter, and various mechanisms for film handling and viewing. It explains the functions of each part, such as how the lens focuses light, the shutter controls exposure time, and the viewing system allows photographers to see the subject. Additionally, it describes the role of the pentaprism in directing light to the viewfinder.

1. Body or Light tight box - An enclosure devoid of light. Lens or Pinhole -

necessary to focus rays of light that is reflected by the subject unto the film. Its
purpose is to allows light to be captured on film, paper, or a digital sensor.

2. Lens - Lens, in optics, piece of glass or other transparent substance that is used
to form an image of an object by focusing rays of light from the object. Lenses
are used in eyeglasses, microscopes, cameras, and telescopes, and their
functions are to magnify or demagnify images to be seen.

3. Shutter – Is a device that allows light to pass for a determined period, exposing
photographic film or a photosensitive digital sensor to light in order to capture a
permanent image of a scene. It’s purpose is controls how long the sensor is
exposed to light to record an image.

4. Shutter Release Button - The shutter button is the button that is pushed to take a
photograph. It is variously also known as the 'release' or release button, the
shutter release and some other terms. It is found on the exterior of the camera,
normally on the right-hand-side-top. When pressed, the shutter of the camera is
"released", so that it opens to capture a picture, and then closes, allowing an
exposure time as determined by the shutter speed setting.

5. Shutter Speed Dial - It's the speed at which the shutter of the camera closes. A
fast shutter speed creates a shorter exposure — the amount of light the camera
takes in — and a slow shutter speed gives the photographer a longer exposure.
Shutter speed provides two main functions. One is to control exposure. The other
is to control the way motion is portrayed in a photo.

6. Film Holder or Film - Are devices designed to hold the film in a stable position
within the patient's mouth, avoiding the need to hold the film by hand. film holder
purpose is a accessory that holds one or more pieces of photographic film, for
insertion into a camera or optical scanning device

7. Film Holder or Film Compartment - Area in which photographic film is held flat
against the back of the camera body, directly behind the shutter, with a
mechanism to advance the film after each exposure is created. Its purpose holds
one or more pieces of photographic film, for insertion into a camera or optical
scanning device

8. Film Advancer - A mechanism for advancing film in a camera or projector.

mechanism. device consisting of a piece of machinery; has moving parts that
perform some function.
9. Viewing system - Camera component that shows the photographer the area of
the subject that will be included in a photograph. In modern cameras it usually is
part of a direct visual- or range-finder focusing system. use an optical viewfinder
which directly shows the scene as seen through the lens, while others use an
electronic viewfinder which displays a digital preview of the scene.

10. Pentaprism - The pentaprism is a mirror placed at a 45-degree angle behind the
camera lens. Its purpose is the mirror projects the light captured from the lens to
the viewfinder.
