DLP Math 7 4thQ (City)

This detailed lesson plan for Mathematics 7 focuses on algebraic expressions, aiming to help learners understand and solve simple equations. The lesson includes activities like 'Arrange me' and 'Algebraic Bingo' to engage students, along with clear objectives, subject matter, and evaluation methods. By the end of the lesson, students should be able to distinguish between variables and constants and evaluate algebraic expressions using given values.

A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 7

(Algebraic Expression)

Date: February 12, 2025

Time Frame: 1 hour

OBJECTIVE:
A. Content Standards
The learners should have knowledge and understanding of the solution of simple
equations
B. Performance Standard
By the end of the lesson, the learners can solve simple equations. and substitute it into
an algebraic expression to evaluate the expression.
C. Learning Competency
a. Distinguish a variable from a constant in an algebraic expression.
b. Solve algebraic expressions given the value/s of the variables.
SUBJECT MATTER:
Topic : Algebraic Expression (Weeks 1 & 2))
Reference : CK-12 Foundation. (2024, January 11). Evaluating algebraic expressions and equations.

Learning Materials : Grade 7 Learners’ Material, Marker, Tarp-papel, Chalk, and Chalk board

LEARNING PROCEDURE:
TEACHER’S TASKS LEARNER’S TASKS
A-PRELIMINARIES ACTIVITY The students are all seated.
a. Prayer
May I request everyone to please stand for the (The students stand for the prayer and
prayer, one representative from the class, will one volunteer from class will lead the
lead the prayer prayer)

b. Greetings Good morning ma’am!

Good morning class!
Thank you, ma’am,
You may now take your seats

c. Checking of Attendance
Class who is absent today? (Students answer may vary)

Are you excited to learn new things today? Yes ma’am!

But before we start, please be reminded of our

class rules.

What are those? Anybody from the class? (The students will recite the class
rules)
d. Motivation

From your respective group we will be having an

activity called ‘’Arrange me’’. Listen carefully to
the instruction.

We have jumbled words on a flashcard, every

group needs to arranged the words in just a (The learners will do the game)
minute, the group who can finish first will be the
winner and will be given a corresponding point.

JUMBLED LETTERS
ableriva efficocient

anttscon ressionpex

eluateva miallynopo
auqetion mert

e. Management of Learning (MOL)

Now before we start, can anyone recall what was

previous lesson?
The students participated in the
questions provided by the teacher in
B.PRE-ACTIVITY the recall of the previous topic.

From your respective group we will be playing a

game called ‘’Algebraic Bingo’’. Before they start
the game, every groups needs to come up with
their own yell that will represent their group.

Instruction (The learners do the game)

1.Distribute the bingo cards to every groups.
2. Call out algebraic expression terms randomly.
3. Students mark the terms on their bingo cards.
4. The first student to complete a row, column, or
diagonal shouts "Bingo!" and do their celebratory
yell.
5. After 5 rounds the group who can gets the
highest score will be the winner. And will receive a
price.

Guide question
From the game that we did, what do you think is
our next topic?

(Students answer may vary)

C. PRESENTATION
The teacher introduces the lesson
‘’Algebraic Expression’’

D. ABSTRACTION The students listen to the teacher

Algebraic expression refers to a constant, a
variable, or a combination of variables and
constant involving a finite number of indicated
fundamental operations (addition, subtraction,
multiplication, division, evolution or radicals,
involution or exponents) in algebra.
Variable is a symbol that represents an unknown
value. Symbols like x, y, a, α, β, θ.
Constant is a symbol with exactly one number or
a fixed value in its replacement set. Any number
is a constant such as 7, 4, and 11 Pi.
Term is an algebraic expression separated by
plus or minus sign.
The degree of a term is the exponent of its
variable while the degree of the polynomial is the
highest degree appearing in any of the terms in
that polynomial.
The numerical factor of a term is called its
numerical coefficient and the variable factor of a
term is called the literal coefficient

Steps to follow in evaluating algebraic

expressions:
1. Substitute the given values for each variable.
2. Simplify first the expression within the
parenthesis.
3. Perform all indicated operations and simplify
the result.

Example:
Evaluate a+7 when:
1. a=3
2. a=12

1. a=3
a+7
3+7=10
2. a=12
a+7
12+7=19

E. ANALYSIS
Board work
Determine the variables, constant and numerical
coefficient of the given expression.
1. 2x2+5z+3
The students participated in the
2. 5y activity.
3. 3m+7

F. GENERALIZATION
The teacher will ask the following question to the
learners.
1. What is an algebraic expression?
2. How to differentiate the variable and
constant?
3. How to solve algebraic expressions given
the value/s of the variables.?

EVALUATION Students answers may vary

Direction: Evaluate the given expression.
1. x + 5, when x=12
2. y+2y, when y=2
3. 3y-2, when y=6
4. x 2−2𝑥+4, when x=2
5. x 2+ 10 , when x=7

AGGREEMENT
Instructions: Evaluate each algebraic expression
by substituting the given values for the variables.
1. Evaluate the expression 2x+3 when x=4.
2. Find the value of the expression 25y−2 when
y=6.
3. Determine the result of the expression
3z2+2z−1 when z=2.
4. Evaluate the expression 3a+2 when a=5.
5. Calculate the value of the expression 4b+7
when b=2.
