It has been said that understanding our history can help us better prepare for our
future—a notion that certainly applies to photography. Keeping this in mind, describe the
mechanics of early photographic systems, analyzing how they differ from the systems of
today and how understanding these past systems can help your craft.
Photography has heavily advanced over the years. In the beginning, photos were only
black and white and the quality is nothing compared to how it is today.Older cameras
would print out the photo and require specific conditions for the photo to process. Just
like everything, over time cameras have advanced, now cameras have so many different
settings for different photos, the quality is like no other, and the colors are vibrant and
look effortless.
2. The list of photographers who have contributed to the development of photography is
long and diverse. Select at least two photographers that you feel made essential
contributions to the field. Describe these contributions and analyze how photography
might be different today without these people.
Henri Cartier Bresson and Sebastiano Salgado are photographers who have contributed
to the development of photography. Henri Cartier Bresson was the creator of
photojournalism. He also photographed during very important parts of history such as
the Spanish Civil War and World War II. Sebastiao Salgado Became a photographer later
in his life when he traveled to Africa. There, he had a cultural awakening and was able to
use photography to capture the society there that was not ideal. This is powerful because this can
spread the word and add a sense of awareness for that part of the world
3. Nowadays, many people regard photography as an art form, but it is also an
invention.Explain and evaluate photography as an invention rather than an art form
exploring things such as how it was invented, when, what was involved, who was involved,
and anything else that pertains to the creation of photography.
Photography is a very important form of art, however, over the years it has become much more.
Photography can be used to express emotions, speed awareness, bring happiness, and express
culture. Photography was invented in 1830 however it wasn't published until later. Photography
is a french invention. The first photograph was taken by the inventor Joseph Niepce in 1826.
4. How have the uses of photography changed over the years? Compare and contrast the
historical uses of photography with the ways that it is used today. What era in photography
would you have liked to live in as a photographer? Explain.
Photography today is used for so many different reasons. It can be a hobby, a job, an adventure,
and more. When photography was first invented, every photo was poor quality and black and
white. Because of this it wasn't as common for people to use it for a large variety of things.
Photography would only be used to capture important moments
5. You are putting together a photography project with the theme 'Photography as an
ArtForm." You are expected to select a series of photos to display and to write a statement
that explains and further explores this theme. What kinds of images would you put
together? What would you include in your statement? Explain and evaluate how you would
express photography as an art form through both a collection of images and written
statement.
This photo is an amazing example of photography mixed with art. Art is meant to evoke emotion
and inspire the viewer to consider the deeper meaning. Photos like this taken during a very hard
time have such a powerful effect on the human mind.
This photo shows a man and a small child with what looks like smoke and damage behind
them. They seem to be running/walking away from the danger. To me, this photograph is a very
complex and powerful art piece.
This photo is another example of art. In the photo you can see rich white men in business suits,
and the lower class is serving them. They all could be shining their shoes for an important
business meeting, or they could be going out to get some food. Eitherway this evokes a sense of
wonder within me and expresses socialist views and stereotypes.
