The Impact of Using Artificial Intelligence as a Learning Tool on Science

Performance of Grade 10 Jacinto

Introduction

The term "artificial intelligence" (AI) refers to a wide range of technologies

that have been created over the past 50 years to allow robots to perform tasks

like seeing, reasoning, learning, and interacting that have historically required

human intelligence (Ergen, 2019). However, the revolutionary potential of AI

across several industries has received unprecedented attention because to

recent developments in generative AI (GenAI), especially models like ChatGPT

(Hong et al., 2022; Lucci et al., 2022).

According from the study of Taneri, (2020). The Philippine education

system, surprisingly, can benefit from the emergence of AI to make classroom

instruction better. One of the key areas where AI can be beneficial in the

Philippine educational context is through the adjustment of curricula and the

application of tailored educational programs. But according to a World Economic

Forum (WEF) report released in 2020, the Philippines' readiness for digital skills

placed it 56th out of 100 nations. The study made clear that although there is a

need to increase digital literacy and skills among the Philippines' many young,

tech-savvy citizens allow the nation to reap the full rewards of the digital

economy.
Additionally, the development of AI as a substitute for education and Even

research implies that current methods might already be out of date (Taeihagh, A.,

2021). Considering that information, The curriculum needs to be revised to take

into account the rapidly advancing technologies. Addressing how AI is affecting

teaching and learning in higher education, It is clear that AI will have a wide

range of effects on higher education, primarily in two key areas: curriculum and

enrollment (Taneri, 2020). Ma and Siau (2018), for example, assert that AI will

expedite curriculum and registration accuracy and consistency. Additionally, in

accordance with Majors in the human sciences and liberal arts will grow in

popularity due to Compared to other fields of study like accounting, these are

less susceptible to the field of artificial intelligence (Ma and Siau 2018).

In similar study of Popenici and Kerr (2017) looked into how AI affected

the teaching-learning process in higher education. Their research concentrated

on how traditional teaching methods and student learning are being impacted by

intelligent technologies. Their study offers insightful information about integrating

AI into science education settings. In their thorough evaluation of AI applications

in higher education, Zawacki-Richter et al. (2019) emphasized the critical role

that educators can play in this field. Their findings highlight how crucial it is to

investigate and comprehend teachers' requirements and viewpoints when

incorporating these technologies into teaching-learning environments.

Purpose of the study

The current study's main objective is to draw attention to both the possible

advantages and any inequalities that could arise from the extensive application of

AI in science courses. These disparities may be caused by accessibility issues,

regional readiness, or infrastructure deficiencies. The ultimate goal of the current

study is to provide a better knowledge of the current relationship between AI and

science education to all pertinent stakeholders, including educators, students,

policymakers, and curriculum designers.

The results of this study are also crucial because they offer practical

suggestions to help educators fully utilize the promise of AI technology in the

classroom, while also adding to the ongoing conversation on the ethical,

pedagogical, and sociocultural implications of AI in education.

Research Questions

This study aims to understand the impact of using artificial intelligence as

a learning tool on science performance of Grade 10 Jacinto

, identify the challenges they encountered, explore the strategies they employ,

and to figure out its impact on pedagogy in public schools. Specifically, this

study will seek to answer the following questions:

1. What are the perceptions of public school teachers towards the

integration of Artificial Intelligence tools and technologies in their teaching

practices?

2. What challenges do they face when integrating AI into their classroom

activities, lesson planning, and curriculum development?

3. What are the strategies for public school teachers to utilize AI tools

effectively in their classroom?

4. What is the impact of AI to teaching methodologies, student-teacher

interactions, and overall learning outcomes?
