The News Broadcasting and Digital Standards Authority (NBDSA) is an

independent body, set up by the News Broadcasters and Digital


Association.
The NBDSA was created to consider and adjudicate complaints about
broadcasts.
It was formerly known as the News Broadcasting Standards Authority
to lobby on its behalf and to act as a central point of joint action on
matters of interest.
The News Broadcasters & Digital Association (NBDA) [Formerly
known as News Broadcasters Association (NBA)] represents the private
television news,
current affairs and digital broadcasters. It is the collective voice of the
news, current affairs and digital broadcasters in India.
It is an organization funded entirely by its members.
The NBDA has presently 27 leading news and current affairs
broadcasters (comprising 125 news and current affairs channels) as its
members.
The NBDA presents a unified and credible voice before the
Government, on matters that affect the growing industry.

Objectives of the News Broadcasters & Digital Association (NBDA)


To promote, protect and secure the interests including the right of
freedom of speech
To promote awareness about the latest developments in the media
industry relating to television news broadcasters, digital news media
Our Mission
To serve as the eyes and ears of the private news, current affairs and
digital broadcasters,
FUNCTIONS
Maintaining and improving the standards of broadcast, and maintaining
the independence of broadcasters, television journalists and/or news
agencies;
Ensuring the maintenance of high standards of public taste and fostering
a due sense of both the rights and responsibilities of citizens;
The purpose of this Code is to document the broad paradigms accepted
by the
members of the News Broadcasters & Digital Association (NBDA) as
practice
and procedures that would help journalists of electronic media to adhere
to the
highest possible standards of public service and integrity.

Impartiality and objectivity in reporting


Accuracy is at the heart of the news television business Impartiality
means treating all sides of a story equally,
Objectivity refers to the ability to present information without bias or
distortion
Ensuring neutrality:
TV News channels must provide for neutrality by offering equality for
all affected
parties, players and actors in any dispute or conflict to present their point
of view.
Reporting on crime and safeguards to ensure crime and violence are not
glorified:

Television news has greater reach, and more immediate impact than
other forms of
media, and this makes it all the more necessary that channels exercise
restraint to
ensure that any report or visuals broadcast do not induce, glorify, incite,
or positively
depict violence and its perpetrators

Depiction of violence or intimidation against women and children:


As an elaboration of Point 3, news channels will ensure that no woman
or juvenile,
who is a victim of sexual violence, aggression, trauma, or has been a
witness to the
same is shown on television without due effort taken to conceal the
identity

Refraining from advocating or encouraging superstition and occultism:


News channels will not broadcast any material that glorifies superstition
and
occultism in any manner

Sex and nudity:


News channels will ensure that they do not show, without morphing,
nudity of the
male or female form.

Privacy:
As a rule channels must not intrude on private lives, or personal affairs
of individuals,
unless there is a clearly established larger and identifiable public interest
for such a
broadcast.

Endangering national security:


In the use of any terminology or maps, that represent India and Indian
strategic
interests, all news channels will use specific terminology and maps
mandated by law

News channels will not allow sex and sleaze as a means to carry out

operations, the use of narcotics and psychotropic substances or any act
of violence,
