First day On
Republic of the Philippines
of the
Work Immersion
Department of Education
first day of our work immersion at Abellana Technical and
Vocational Center Inc., I thought everything would be easy. Since I grew up in
Region animals,
a farming community, feeding VII - Central Visayas
planting, and cleaning yards were
Bais City Division
nothing new to me. However, as the day went on, I quickly realized that
Mabunao Integrated School
working on a farm in this environment was different from what I was used to. In
the morning, I cleaned the building and fed the animals, and in the afternoon,
we started plotting. What I expected did not fully match reality—it was far more
challenging than I had imagined. I struggled with the heat, which I had never
experienced at this intensity before. I had to keep drinking water because I felt
constantly dehydrated. The grass was itchy, and the dust made everything
worse. Through this experience, I have come to realize that agriculture is not
as simple as I once thought. It requires strength, endurance, and expertise. If
you want to pass Senior High School, you need bravery, determination, and
resilience. Although Senior High School is the final step before college, it is
filled with challenges that test one's perseverance and dedication.

Early in the morning, we went to the farm and began our tasks. It was
exhausting—we started pulling weeds at 7:50 AM and only stopped at around
9:30 AM because the sun was becoming too intense. We left that task and
moved on to other duties. We took very few breaks, as we wanted to complete
the given tasks as soon as possible. As I reflected on my experience, I realized
that farming is not as easy as I had assumed. Back in my hometown in
Barangay Mabunao, I could start my farm work whenever I wanted and take
breaks at my convenience. However, here in Abellana, we were required to work
from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday, to complete the required 80 hours.
Although it was only our second day, I already felt exhausted and even
considered giving up. But I reminded myself that I needed to overcome these
difficulties because this is the life of a student. "If you want to succeed,
everything starts with the word ‘WILL.’"

Today was another day at the farm. We continued digging soil and
preparing the land for planting squash. The weather was extremely hot,
especially around 9:00 Region
AM, so VII

temperature. This experience made me realize how difficult the life of a

farmer truly is. They endure physical exhaustion and make sacrifices every
day just to provide food for their families. They work tirelessly from sunrise
to sunset, with little rest. This experience has become my motivation to
pursue my dreams and work hard for a better future—not just for myself,
but for my future family. I also want to give back to my parents and provide
them with the life they have always dreamed of. I want to spoil them with
the rewards of my hard work and perseverance.
Today felt better than the previous days. We were able to take breaks
since we had already completed most of our tasks. Some of us were

surroundings. I now understand the importance of teamwork. Tasks

Today marked the last day of the week—our fifth day of work
immersion. We were excited because we only had a half-day at the farm.

We arrived early so we could finish early as well. We started at around 7:40

in school. Many people do not have the opportunity to study and instead

spend their lives working on farms, enduring the heat, thirst, heavy labor,
and even injuries. Before this experience, I used to think that school was a
burden and that I would rather work on a farm and relax. But I was wrong—
farm work is not something you can just "chill" with. There is always work to
be done, and you cannot rest until everything is finished. This realization
has motivated me to strive for a better life.

The second week of our work immersion has begun. Early in the
morning, my classmates and I were assigned to take care of the animals—
cleaning their areas, feeding them, changing their water, and fixing their
shelters. Afterward, we watered the plants and did some weeding. This type
of work has become part of our daily routine, and we have become more
accustomed to it. What once felt difficult now feels manageable. Agriculture
may seem boring to some, but it is quite the opposite. It teaches valuable
skills—problem-solving, animal care, and the importance of agricultural
resources. Agriculture is an essential part of life, and everyone should have
at least some knowledge about it.

Today felt easier than the previous days. We had fewer tasks,
allowing us to take short breaks. Cleaning the small ruminant
house has become my daily activity, and I’ve started to enjoy it. I
particularly like changing the water for the ducks, feeding the
goats, and maintaining the farmyard. After weeding, I used a rake
to pull out the remaining weeds and placed them around the
plants as fertilizer. Being here for almost two weeks has taught
me so much about farming. I’ve learned how to make organic
fertilizer using weeds, manure, and other organic materials. I’ve
also learned proper planting techniques, such as determining the
right soil depth and manure application.

As usual, today involved cutting napier grass, watering

plants, and taking care of animals. I spent a lot of time cleaning the
ducks' water area, which was very dirty. I also had to fix some
damages in their enclosure. After finishing that task, I cleaned the
small ruminant house before joining my classmates in weeding.
Everything went smoothly, and I have learned a lot during my time
here. This experience has been a great challenge for me since I
initially had very little knowledge about agriculture. However,
through hands-on work, I have gained valuable skills and insights.

Like the previous days, I was assigned to take care of the

animals in the morning. Since it had rained the night before, we
didn’t need to water the plants, so we focused on weeding and
cleaning. In the afternoon, we continued our routine of feeding
the animals, cleaning their areas, and tidying up the tools. I
carefully brushed the tools before storing them properly,
ensuring everything was in order for the next use. I realized that
taking care of tools and equipment is just as important as doing
the farm work itself.
On our last day, we arrived early to complete our final tasks.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

I would like to express my greatest appreciation to all those who

guided me to complete these 10 days of work immersion and for completing
the portfolio documents.
First, I would like to thank our Almighty God for giving us strength and
guiding me throughout my journey. He taught me how to deal with different
people every day and to make friends with them. Our Almighty God also
motivates me to finish the 10 days of work immersion.
Second, I would like to thank my family for giving encouragement, support,
enthusiasm and invaluable assistance to me. Without all of these, I might not
be able to complete my work immersion here at Abellana Technical and
Vocational Center Inc.
Thirdly, my deepest appreciation to our work immersion adviser Raymundo
A. Cababao, for guiding us during our work immersion. Thank you for being
with us.
To my classmates who were there for me, thank you for your encouraging
words and for always there when I need someone to talk with. Thank you for
being always there in times of my struggles and difficulties in life.
To Jenifer Encierto and for his family, thank you for letting us stay in your
house. Thank you for treating us with your kindness and for loving us there.
Without your help, we would be unable to finish our work immersion because
we have no place to stay and a family that made us laugh.
Lastly, I would like to acknowledge with much appreciation to our trainer
Ma’am Viccel Tinguban (Ma’am Che) for sharing with us the knowledge that
she has, giving us advice and tips on life. Thank you for the words of wisdom
