3. Under Default database import link XML file, click to select the default link XML file.
4. Under Default import log file, click to select the default import log file.
5. In the Default import mode group box, under Update options, define how you want the
software to overwrite the values in the target properties:
▪ Select Update all target properties to update all the target properties by overwriting
the values in the target properties with the source values and also by writing data in
empty target properties.
▪ Select Update only target properties without values to update only those target
properties that do not contain any values.
6. Under Miscellaneous, do one of the following:
▪ Select Do not insert new records to overwrite the existing target data according to the
key selections in the Data Link Wizard without inserting new source records.
▪ Clear the Do not insert new records check box to insert new source records and to
overwrite the existing target records with the source data according to the key selections
in the Data Link Wizard.
7. Select Create and calculate related data for imported properties to instruct the software
to create the appropriate items and calculate specific values in the target database when the
software imports an item that triggers the creation of other items and calculation of relevant
properties.
We strongly recommend that you select this option to ensure the integrity of the
imported data.
8. Click the Data Source tab.
9. Click New to define a new data source or click Properties to edit the displayed data source
definitions.
10. Use the Data Link Properties wizard to define the source data as required.
11. Click Apply.
▪ You can select another item type property and click Add again. The software allows
you to adapt codes for all the properties that exist for item type that you selected.
▪ If you need to adapt property codes for another item type, start a new session of the
Code Adaptation Wizard.
10. Click Next.
11. On the Completing the Code Adaptation Wizard page, click View to display the code
adaptations you defined for the current item type.
12. Click Finish to close the wizard.
You can click to select and move all the source tables to the Selected
tables list.
6. Click Next.
7. On the Define the Relationships Between Tables page, click Add.
8. To define the relationships between the tables, from the Left Table and Right Table lists,
select the tables that you want to join.
9. From the Left Column and Right Column lists, select the columns that correspond to
common or compatible data in both left and right tables.
10. Click Add to define another relationship or click Next.
11. On the Completing the Source Query Wizard - Query Results page, examine the query
results and click Finish when done.

in the selected query.
You cannot edit the data if you are previewing tables defined in a query.
9. Click Filter to define a filter condition if you want to include only specific source items from
the selected table or the tables defined in the selected query.
You can use the following wildcard characters in your filter: % - any combination of
characters. _ (underscore) - any single character
10. Under Target, from the Target item type list, select the required target item type.
You can click View Data to preview the contents of the target item type list.
11. From the Property code adaptation list, select a code adaptation suitable for the properties
that will be imported by the current link.
Click New Code if you need to define a new code adaptation.
12. Click Next.
13. On the Map the Fields of the Source Table and Target Item Type Properties page,
select a source field and drag it to a target item type property.
Click Expand to view the page in full screen mode. Click Expand again,

page when the page is in normal-size mode.
14. To determine the expression that the software will display after importing the data, right-
click the mapped value in the Source Field box in the Target pane and then select
Expression Builder, Expression UOM, or Get Value From List depending on the type of
the selected field. Build the expression as needed.
15. Select the Key check box to set the field uniqueness.
Defining a field as unique ensures that Import Manager validates the content
uniqueness of the imported data in this field. Import Manager will insert or update the data
according to the import mode settings. You can define a combination of field uniqueness by
selecting the Key check box next to several target fields. However, you must set at least
one field as unique.
In an Import Manager data link, when using a unique key which is not the Item
Tag or using the Item Tag as a unique key with other unique keys, the software might insert
non-Unique items.
16. Click Next.
17. On the Completing the Data Link Wizard page, click View to examine the data link
summary information.
18. Click Finish to create the link.
▪ Importing transformer data requires special handling. This is due to the fact that
transformers are composed of transformer and transformer component item types. For
more information, see Importing Transformers: Special Notes (on page 14).
▪ There are special requirements for data links intended to insert operating case data for plant
items. For details, see Importing Operating Case Data (on page 24).
Property Setting
You cannot edit the data if you are previewing tables defined in a query.

Import mode
Allows you to set the import mode if you do not want to accept the default settings defined on
the Options Dialog Box (see "General Tab (Options Dialog Box)" on page 47).
Update options — Enables you to select the default mode for data insertion. The options are:
▪ Update all target properties — Updates all the target properties by overwriting the values
in the target properties with the source values and also by writing data in empty target
properties.
▪ Update only target properties without values — Updates only those target properties that
do not contain any values.
Miscellaneous
Do not insert new records — Overwrites the existing target data according to the key
selections in the Data Link Wizard without inserting new source records.
Create and calculate related data for imported properties — Creates appropriate items and
calculates specific values in the target database when the software imports an item that triggers
the creation of other items and calculates relevant properties.
We strongly recommend that you select the Create and calculate related data for
imported properties option to ensure the integrity of the imported data.

Target — Displays the target item type fields, their type, default value, and the mapped source
field. Also, allows to set field uniqueness by selecting the Key check box. Fields displayed in
light gray are defined as read-only in the Data Dictionary. The software overwrites the data in
the mapped fields with the source data regardless of whether they are read-only or not.
Key — Defines a field as unique to make the software check that the contents of the imported
data in this field is unique. Import Manager will insert or update the data according to the import
mode settings. You can define a combination of field uniqueness by selecting the Key check
box next to several target fields. However, you must set at least one field as unique.
Displayed Name — Shows the name of the target field as it is displayed in Smart Electrical.
Type — Displays the type of the target field. For example, a numeric field, text field, select list,
and so forth.
Default Value — Displays the default values for the attributes as they are defined in the Data
Dictionary.
Source Field — Displays the mapped source field that you dragged from the Source
pane. You can determine the expression that will be displayed in the software after importing
the data. Right-click a Source Field value and select Expression Builder, Expression UOM,

that the field is shorter that the source data and therefore it will be truncated.
View Data — Allows you to display the contents of the selected target item type properties.
Complete list — Select to display the properties of related items.
Show mapped fields only — Select to display mapped fields only.
▪ Mapping to target properties whose display names contain one or more dots will import the
source data, but these properties will be marked as key indexes.
▪ There are special mapping requirements for the import of operating case data. For details,
see Importing Operating Case Data (on page 24).
