1. Introduction to Equity Engineers

This year’s Mobile Robotics I is inspired by United Nations Sustainable Development

Goal (UN SDG) #1: No Poverty, a call to end poverty in all its forms everywhere. The
goal emphasizes creating sustainable livelihoods, improving access to education
and resources, and fostering equality through innovative solutions. Poverty remains
a global challenge, with millions lacking basic necessities like education, clean
energy, affordable housing, and job opportunities. However, advancements in
technology and robotics can help bridge these gaps, enabling communities to
overcome barriers and thrive.

https://sdg.neda.gov.ph/goal-1-end-poverty-in-all-its-forms-everywhere/

Our competition encourages participants to apply robotics and engineering skills to

tackle critical issues related to poverty, with a focus on the youth from these
countries. Each challenge represents a real-world scenario where robots can make a
meaningful difference. For example:

Parking the Mobile Clinic highlights the role of good healthcare in not letting
preventable diseases distract students from focusing on their education.

Drawing Water from the Well reflects the importance of having clean, potable
water accessible. Around the world, many children miss school due to
water-borne illnesses or to fetch water

6

Stem Table Set-Up emphasizes future-proofing learning, and ensuring

children grow up with the skills and knowledge that tomorrow needs.

Challenge Document Guide

Here is a guide that you can follow to understand how the game document has been
organised.

1. Read the introduction. This gives you an outline of the theme based on
situations in the real world.
2. Understand the Game Field. This is the playfield on which your robot will run.
It shows you how the playfield is orientated and where the missions and start
areas are.
3. Understand the missions. As you go through the missions, refer to the game
field. Some are fixed in place, while others require your robot to move or
manipulate items. Read these sections carefully to know what your robot
must do, what you should avoid, and how to score points!
4. Read the Rules to know all the do’s and don’ts. Know when it is “safe” to
handle your robot, how to start and end the match, and more to ensure
everyone has a fair game!

3. Sub-Category Game Rules

If there is any uncertainty during the robot attempt, the referee will make the final
decision. The referee should decide in favour of the team if no clear decision is
possible.

The set of rules can be broken up into four sections. There are rules that the team must
follow before the match begins (Pre-Run), rules to follow when the match has started
and before the 2:00 minutes is up (During the Run), and rules to follow after the match
has ended (Post-Run).

3.1 Pre-run
● Robots will be inspected by referees according to the following requirements
prior to quarantine.
● A maximum of 3 motors may be brought to the playfield.
● Illegal or non-LEGO parts are not allowed to be used.
● Robots and attachment(s) must be able to fit in a 25x25x25cm box.
● Attachments that cause the robot to exceed the 25x25x25cm limit will not be
allowed to enter the game with the robot.
● The Robot, all extensions, attachment(s), arms, and sensors, must fit
completely within the start area(s) prior to launch.
● Teams are allowed to make physical adjustments to the robot in the starting
area before the start of the run.
● Teams may choose which start area their robot, attachments, and mission
props will start in.

3.2 Start of Robot Run

● Robots should be placed on the table, completely within the start area at this
point.
● Team equipment cannot begin combined with any mission props; they must
begin separated from each other.
● Time begins when the referee gives the signal to start.
● Each robot run has a maximum length of 2:00 minutes (120 seconds).

3.3 During Robot Run

● Robots must launch from either start area.

● Robots must travel from one start area to another; carrying it by hand from
one start area to the other is not allowed.

Teams are allowed the following only when their robot is completely within any start
area:
● To swap between autonomous and non-autonomous modes.
● To switch programs in their robots.
● To change the robot arm attachments, sensors and/or motors within the start
area.
● To reposition or aim the robot for its next launch.

Global Robotics Games 2025 | Ver 1.1

9

Teams are not allowed:

● To touch the robot when the robot is moving.
● To touch the robot when it is partially and/or fully outside the start area.
● To reprogram and enter data into the robot during the robot run.
● When in autonomous mode, to control the robot using any form of remote or
wireless control.
● To use their hands to repair mission props that have been displaced or
destroyed by their robot.
3.4 Ending of Robot Run
A robot attempt will end if…
● The robot attempt time (2 minutes or 120 seconds) has ended.
● The robot has completely left the game table.
● The robot or the team violated rules or regulations.
● A team member shouts “STOP” and the robot does not move anymore.
o If the robot is still moving, the round will only end when the robot stops
by itself or by a team member.

Once the robot attempt has ended, time is stopped, and the judge scores the
attempt. The scores and match time are noted on a scoring sheet (on paper or
digital), and the team needs to sign off the scores (on paper or digital
signature/checkbox). Once the team representative signs off by their score and
match timing, no further amendments are allowed.

If a team does not want to sign off within a reasonable period of time, the judge can
decide to disqualify the team for this round. Their right to sign off, as well as the
penalty for not doing so, will be clearly explained to the teams.

Video, photo, or other sources of “evidence” are not permissible in altering the match
score and time. Interference by people outside the game area (anyone who is not the
immediate team member: teachers, coaches, parents, etc.) is likewise not accepted.

If a team finishes an attempt without having solved a (partial) task that yields
positive points, the time of that run will be set at 120 seconds.

The ranking of teams depends on the best performance from the games. For
example, the best round of three will be used to rank teams. Furthermore, if teams
have matching scores, the outcome will then be based on the round timing.

ensuring the job is done efficiently and on time, so everyone can enjoy
a fresh, welcoming environment conducive to learning.
Mission:
A Trash Bag (black bricks) has mistakenly been left behind in one of four possible
locations on the school grounds. Robots are to launch from the left start area, travel
along the last known Inspection Path (black line surrounded by thick white border),
use a sensor to locate the black Trash Bag, and use a light or sound output to
indicate that the Trash Bag has been found.

Additional Stipulations
1. This is an autonomous mission: after launching the robot, teams are not
allowed to use their iPad/device to actively control the robot.
2. A sensor must be used to detect the black Trash Bag. Points cannot be
scored if the sensor is not functional (i.e. code does not make use of the
sensor)
3. Teams must notify the referees that they are attempting this autonomous
mission.

Global Robotics Games 2025 | Ver 1.1
