Hydrostatic Testing

The document outlines the hydrostatic testing procedure for verifying the integrity and strength of pressure-retaining pipework under ASME B31.3 standards. It includes the objective, required equipment, detailed steps for conducting the test, and acceptance criteria for successful testing. Key steps involve filling the pipe with water, pressurizing it, and monitoring for leaks and structural stability.

Hydrostatic Testing Procedure

Objective:
To verify the integrity and strength of the pipeline by pressurizing it with water to a
predefined test pressure.

Scope:
All pressure-retaining pipework requiring certification under ASME B31.3 or equivalent
codes.

Equipment Required:
- Calibrated pressure gauges
- Water source and fill pump
- Air vents, drains, and end caps
- Chart recorder or data logger

Procedure:
1. Complete line cleaning, flushing, and inspection.
2. Fill the pipe with clean water, ensuring all air is vented.
3. Gradually increase pressure to 1.5 times design pressure.
4. Hold test pressure for the duration specified (typically 2 hours).
5. Monitor for pressure drops, visible leaks, or deformation.
6. Record start and end times, pressures, and observations.

Acceptance Criteria:
- No leakage observed.
- No pressure drop beyond allowable limits.
- Pipework remains structurally stable.
