2. Proposed Location of Intervention: Ganjam, Odisha

Ganjam District came into existence on 1st April 1936. The district is named after the
old township and European fort of Ganjam situated on the northern bank of river
Rushikulya which was the head quarter of the District. The Ganjam area was a part of
ancient Kalinga which was occupied by Ashok in 261 B.C. The period of 1757 was ruled
by the French Commander Bussy. In 1759, the French ruler was defeated by English and
the District was annexed by them. The office of the District Collector was established in
1794. The District got separated from the Madras Presidency and formed the part of the
newly created State of Odisha province with effect from 1.4.1936.

4
Agriculture is a traditional occupation and the way of living of the inhabitants of the
Ganjam District. The District is well known for its fertile soil and agricultural productivity.
A large variety of crops are grown here like Paddy, Ground nut, Sugar cane, Oil seeds,
Ragi, Mung, Biri etc. Because of the agro climatic condition Ganjam is included as the
agricultural District.

4. Project Rationale:
The project aims to enhance the skill set of SHG members through an advanced training
program. Building on the positive response from previous beneficiaries, this initiative
seeks to provide a more targeted and specialized training experience. The goal is to

expertise, thereby contributing to their professional growth and the overall
improvement of manufacturing unit.

Here are some considerations that have been contributed to the demand and interest in
such training:

Automation and Technology Integration:

Increased automation and the integration of advanced technologies like robotics and
artificial intelligence could enhance efficiency in slipper manufacturing.
3D printing may be employed for creating customized and intricate designs, allowing for
more personalized products.

Sustainable Practices:

5
Growing consumer awareness and demand for sustainable and eco-friendly products will
drive slipper manufacturers to adopt environmentally friendly materials and production
processes.
Implementation of circular economy principles, such as recycling and upcycling, could
become more prevalent in the industry.

Customization and Personalization:

With the advancement of technology, slipper manufacturers may offer more
customization options, allowing customers to personalize their footwear based on
