The following questions consist of two statements – Assertion (A) and Reason (R).
Answer these questions selecting the appropriate option given below :
(a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation for A.
(b) Both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation for A.
(c) A is true but R is false.
(d) A is false but R is true.
9. Assertion (A) : 0 and –2 are the zeroes of f(t) = 4t² + 8t.
Reason (R) : For f(t) = 4t² + 8t, f(0) = f(–2) = 0
10. Assertion (A) : The graph of the equation 2x+3y = 14 and 4 x –2y = 8 intersect
at a point.
Reason (R) : The lines represented by the equations
a1 b
a 1 x + b 1 y + c, = 0 and a 2 x +b 2 y + c 2 = 0 are intersecting at a point if  1.
a2 b2

Section – B (2x4 = 8)
11. Explain whether 3 x 12 x 101 + 4 is prime number or a composite number.
OR
Check whether 12 n can end with the digit 0 for any natural number n.
12. Find a quadratic polynomial each with the given numbers as the sum and
product of its zeroes respectively.
1
2,
3
13. Solve the following pair of linear equations :
3x – 5y =4, 2y + 7 = 9x
14. For what value of k, does the system of linear equations
2x+ 3y = 7

Section – C (3x3 = 9)
15. Find the zeroes of the quadratic polynomial 6x² - 3 – 7x and verify the
relationship between the zeros and the coefficients.
16. Find the quadratic polynomial sum and product of whose zeros are –1 and –
20 respectively. Also find the zeros of the polynomial so obtained.
17. Write the discriminant of the quadratic equation :

Section – D (5x1 = 5)
18. Draw the graph of the equations x – y + 1 =0 and 3x + 2y – 12 = 0. Using this
graph, find the values of x and y which satisfy both the equations.
OR
Draw the graph of 2x + y = 6 and 2x – y + 2 = 0. Shade the region bounded
by these lines and x-axis. Find the area of the shaded region.
Section – E (4x2 = 8)
This section comprises 2 case study based questions of 4 marks each.
19. There are two sections in class 10 th in a School-Section A and Section B. To
enhance the reading skills of the students, on each day, the school nominates
2 students from each section to set up a class library. There are 42 students
in section A and 40 students in section B.
Read the above information and answer the following questions:
(i) If the product of two positive integers is equal to the product of their HCF and
LCM is true then, find the HCF (42, 40). 1
