Assertion and Reason type of Questions
In the following questions a statement of Assertion is followed by a statement of
Reason.
Mark the correct choice as two statements are given one labeled Assertion (A)
and the other labeled Reason (R). Select the correct answer to these questions
from the codes (a), (b), (c) and (d) as given below:
(a) Both A and R are true, and R is correct explanation of the assertion.
(b) Both A and R are true, but R is not the correct explanation of the assertion.
(c) A is true, but R is false.
(d) A is false, but R is true.

I. Assertion: Decomposition of vegetable matter into compost is an endothermic

reaction.
PRASHANT KIRAD

Reason: Decomposition reaction involves the breakdown of a single

reactant into simpler products. [2022]

II. Assertion: Silver bromide Decomposition is used in black and white

photography.

Reason: Light provides energy for this exothermic reaction. [2023]

III. Assertion: The colour of aqueous solution of copper sulphate turns colourless
when a piece of lead is added to it.

Reason: Lead is more reactive than copper, and Hans displaces copper for its salt
solution. [2023]

IV. Assertion: In the following chemical equation,

CuO(s) + Zn(s) ZnO(s) + Cu(s)
zinc is getting oxidised and copper oxide is getting reduced.

Reason: The process in which oxygen is added to a substance is called oxidation

where as the process in which oxygen is removed from a substance is called
reduction.

V. Assertion: Iron articles are painted so as to prevent them from rusting.

Reason: When the surface of iron is coated with the paint, it's surface does not
come in direct contact with oxygen and moisture, therefore rusting does not take
place.
