For the Third and Fourth Floors:

d.f.u. Pipe Dist. to Vent

#1 UR to WC 12 2 ½ in. 10’-0”

#2 UR, WC, to Stack 24 4 in. 16’-0”

#3 LAV to Stack 4 2 in. 8’-0”

#4 WC to Stack 18 4 in. 16’-0”

For the Ground Floor Fixtures:

d.f.u. Pipe Dist. to Vent

#1 WC to Stack 6 2 in. 8’-0”

#2 LAV to Stack 7 2 ½ in. 10’-0”

III. Stack Sizing (Soil Stack)

a. Calculation of the Total DFU
DFU TOTAL
4 Urinals 6 24
10 Water Closet 6 60
8 Lavatories 1 8
TOTAL 92 DFU
b. Based on the Table 14.2, at 92 DFU for the entire stack, the minimum stack
size would be 4 in. (100 mm).
IV.Vent Stack Sizing
a. Based on Table 14.4A, at 4 in. diameter soil stack pipe, 92 DFU and at a
developed length of 56 ft (17 m), the vent size is found to be at least 2 ½ in.

b. Stack Size Summary Table

STACK SIZE

FLOOR f.u. Accum. f.u. Pipe Size

4 46 46 4” (100 mm)

3 46 92 4” (100 mm)

2 - 92 4” (100 mm)

1 - 92 4” (100 mm)

Ground - 92 4” (100 mm)

c. Note: Code requirements also stipulate that the vent stack must terminate no
less than 6 in (150 mm) above the roof, and if the roof is to be used for other
than weather protection (for example, as a terrace or balcony), the vent stack
must run at least 5 ft (1.5 m) above the roof.
V. Building Drain Sizing
Considering a slope of 1/8-in slope per ft (10.4 mm per m) and a 92 DFU, the
building drain is sized at 4 in. (100 mm).
