REFLECTION PAPER
CBMA ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND FINANCIAL LITERACY SEMINAR
THEME: COMMUNITY DRIVEN LEARNING: FINANCIAL AND ENTREPRENEURIAL
EMPOWERMENT THROUGH SPIRIT OF VOLUNTEERISM
The opening remarks were addressed by Dr. Pelilia C. Veloso, CBMA Dean, Dr. Josephine
Lambinicho, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Atty. Michael Henry C. Sevilleja, Vice President
for Administration, and Dr. Jerry C. Dichoso, Director of the Center for Community Development
and Extension Services.
Ms. Fatima Andrea Sanchez Cruz holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences degree
from the University of the Philippines, with a major in Economics and a minor in Psychology.
Fatima has
worked as a Front Desk Officer at BPI and a Business Counselor at the Department of Trade and
Industry (DTI). Her work at DTI, notably in areas such as Business Continuity Planning and Supply
Chain Management, has had a substantial impact on the growth and resilience of businesses
across several sectors. During the seminar, Fatima offered her deep understanding of supply chain
principles and business continuity, providing useful insights to the audience.
Ms. Fatima Andrea Sanchez Cruz, a Trade and Industry Specialist at the Department of
Trade and Industry (DTI), then discussed the Philippine entrepreneurial scene. She provided
persuasive facts on Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), emphasizing their importance
in the country's economy. She led students through an engaging and interactive seminar on how to
identify business possibilities, analyze market demands, and develop strategic business plans. She
also underlined the necessity of cultivating a growth mentality and encouraging students to accept
the obstacles of entrepreneurship as part of their path to success.
Seminar was ended emphasizing the importance of financial literacy and entrepreneurial
thinking in today's competitive business world. The event proved to be a useful experience,
providing students with practical financial knowledge and business methods, inspiring and
motivating them to take control of their financial future and pursue entrepreneurial chances.
The first speaker, Ms. Michelle Charlene Chua, emphasized the importance of setting financial
goals, differentiating between needs and wants, and investing early to build a strong financial
foundation. She illustrated her insights through real-life experiences and introduced a step-by-step
financial planning strategy. The second speaker, Ms. Fatima Andrea Sanchez Cruz, provided a
comprehensive discussion on entrepreneurship in the Philippine context, highlighting the
challenges entrepreneurs face, such as economic uncertainties, fierce competition, and complex
regulatory policies. She encouraged critical thinking about identifying business opportunities,
understanding consumer needs, and developing strategic business plans.
