Task Instructions

Create your first Figma design file

For your first design, you’ll get started with Figma! From there, you’ll choose and design
appropriate components that will help the end user navigate the platform with ease.

1. Go to figma.com and create a free account on Figma

2. Select “New design file” to get started

a. Figma has a lot of plug-ins to help you, so you don’t need to start from scratch.
But if you prefer to start from scratch, feel free to do so!

3. We want to give the user the option to select their ad types, so you will first look for some
icons to better illustrate their ads.

4. Install an icons plug-in

a. “Eva icons” is known to work well, but feel free to choose any as well.

5. Create a blank desktop

6. Add your ad types now. Start with three types:

a. Text ad
b. Image and Text ad
c. Video ad

7. Contain your icons and change the colors at your leisure; make your creations
components so you can reuse them.

Create your second design

Figma allows you to create multiple pages in your design on the left menu. You will create a new
page and work there.

1. First, install the handy “Chart” plug-in.

2. This plug-in allows us to create chart types by generating random data or allowing the
user to provide their data points (even in JSON and excel format).

3. Next, configure your analytics in any way you see fit.

a. A simple approach: listing the ad types on the left and the dashboards on the
right, and using lines to separate each entry, start by listing two. Feel free to be
creative and include more ads or more information and charts.

Create the final design

In this design, you will create a survey and come up with questions to ask the product users in
order to improve the design.

1. In a new page in your design, set five textboxes on the page (set them one-by-one,
then write your questions)
a. Check the Skyscanner website https://www.skyscanner.com/ and change the
styling and colors to match the company aesthetic. Make sure an icon or box
underneath your questions indicates where a user would answer.

Create the Jira tickets

We will now create tasks for the front-end team.

1. First, you want to change your Figma design’s permissions to allow anyone with a link to
“view.”

2. Grab your Jira template from the additional resources. Jira is a helpful tool used by many
organizations to assign tickets (called stories or tasks) to developers, designers, product
managers, QA engineers, etc.

3. Each of your designs will have an associated Jira ticket. In each Jira ticket, you will set
the following pieces:
a. The title (make it descriptive)
b. The project: Skyscanner
c. The reporter will be yourself
d. The description (tell the developer what you want them to build, add a link to the
design).

Remember: The Jira ticket helps developers bring your designs to life. Be as descriptive as you
can so there is no confusion in what you are asking. It is recommended you start by saying the
following: “As a developer, I would like to” and explain the desired task.
