Lecture 3 ALGEBRA
Lecture 3 ALGEBRA
📘 Example
3(x - 2) = 2(x + 1) + 4
→ Expand both sides: 3x - 6 = 2x + 2 + 4
→ Simplify: 3x - 6 = 2x + 6
→ Subtract 2x: x - 6 = 6
→ x = 12
Ali is 3 years older than twice his brother. Their total age is 33. Find their ages.
Introduction to Inequalities
What is an inequality?
An inequality shows a range of solutions using comparison symbols:
Tip: Treat like equations, but if you multiply/divide by a negative — flip the sign!
📘 Example 1: x - 2 < 5
➤ Add 2 → x < 7
➤ Divide by -3 → x ≤ -3
➤ Expand: 2x - 2 > 4
➤ Add 2 → 2x > 6
➤ Divide by 2 → x > 3
📘 Example 4: 5x + 1 ≤ 11
➤ Subtract 1 → 5x ≤ 10
➤ Divide → x ≤ 2
1. x+4>9
2. -2x < 6
3. 3(x + 1) ≥ 12
4. x-3≤2
5. 2(x - 4) < 0
