Ten’s Place Digit Same & Unit’s Place Digits Total 10

First Figures are Same and Last Figure Adds to 10, 100, and so on…
Let us start with 2-digit numbers.
Here, 2-digit numbers start with the same digit and the sum of their last digits is 10. In such
cases, the product of the two numbers can be easily computed.
Example 1: 42 x 48 = ?
Here, the first digit of both numbers are same, i.e. 4 and the last digit of both numbers add to 10, i.e. 2+8.
The result comprises of 2 parts:
1st part or Left figure = multiply the digit with One more than the digit
2nd part or Right figure = multiply both the digits
Remember that since the 2 digits add to 10, so the right figure will contain 2 digits,
i.e. if the product of 2 digits is, say 9 then it will be written as 09.

numbers is same i.e.

4 2 x 4 8
20 16

The last digits of both


numbers add to 10, 4x(4+1)=20 2x8=16
i.e. (2+8=10)
The answer is 2016
Example 2: 69 x 61 = ?
Here, the first digit of both numbers are same, i.e. 6 and the last digit of both numbers add to 10, i.e. 9+1.
The result comprises of 2 parts:
1st part or Left figure = multiply the digit with One more than the digit
2nd part or Right figure = multiply both the digits
Remember that since the 2 digits add to 10, so the right figure will contain 2 digits,
i.e. if the product of 2 digits is, say 9 then it will be written as 09.

In this section, we are going to study another typical scenario when the First Figure adds to
10 and the Last Figures of 2 numbers are Same
Let us start with 2-digit numbers.
Here, 2-digit numbers have the same last digit and the sum of their first digits is 10.
In such cases, the product of the two numbers can be easily computed.
Example 1: 24 x 84 = ?
Here, the last digit of both numbers are same, i.e. 4 and the first digit of both numbers
add to 10, i.e. 2+8.
The result comprises of 2 parts:
1st part or Left figure = multiply the digits and add the common last digit
2nd part or Right figure = square the common digit
Remember that since the 2 digits add to 10, so the right figure will contain 2 digits,
i.e. if the product of 2 digits is, say 9 then it will be written as 09.

Example 2: 63 x 43 = ?
Here, the last digit of both numbers are same, i.e. 3 and the first digit of both numbers
add to 10, i.e. 6+4.
The result comprises of 2 parts:
1st part or Left figure = multiply the digits and add the common last digit
2nd part or Right figure = square the common digit
Remember that since the 2 digits add to 10, so the right figure will contain 2 digits,
i.e. if the product of 2 digits is, say 9 then it will be written as 09.

The first digits of both


numbers add to 10, (6x4)+3=27 3x3=09
i.e. (6+4=10)
