Pathways has become narrower as one progress across dark, precarious routes. The community
around the local area of Mankilam, Purok Lemonsito Main Road
1.0 Introduction
1.1 Purpose
The Purpose of this proposal is to install fifteen (15) solar streetlights throughout dark pathway
corners around Barangay Mankilam, Tagum City.
After analyzing the feasibility of various issues and solutions, we will recommend the most
effective way to modify it to its cost-effective options.
According to community observations since September 19, 2023, Barangay Mankilam, Tagum
City needs to construct effective solar streetlights throughout dark pathways for the following
reasons:
• Crime: Poorly lit areas are more susceptible to criminal activities.
• Accidents: Insufficient lighting contributes to higher accident rates.
• Visibility: Compensating for low visibility at night is essential for safety.
• Pedestrian Safety: Civilians struggle with crossing streets safely due to inadequate lighting.
• Cost Issues: Conventional electric lights incur higher ongoing costs compared to
solar alternatives.
2.0 Discussion
2.1 Implementation
2.2 Vicinity
Our vendor contacts for the materials, solar sources, and manufacturing services are as follows:
The following criteria were considered to determine which communication technology would best
meet the Barangay’s needs:
1. Workers--The workers of this project are electric engineers, installing, maintaining, and
repairing electrical control, writing, and lighting systems.
2. Maintenance--This involves regular checks, cleaning, and timely battery replacements. It
ensures they work well and last longer.
3. Services Personnel--They should be trained and certified for solar light maintenance. This
training means they understand the equipment and procedures.
4. Warranties--The minimum of LED Light’s life span is 5 to 6 years, with 3 years all inclusive
warranty, and the Pole has up to 25 years of life span and 10 years of warranty. Meanwhile,
the Battery has 6 to 8 years of life span with a 3 year warranty.
Needs Assessment
This project will bring various benefits to the neighborhoods of Tagum City. Establishing solar
streetlights ensure that paths are safer for the community therein, providing a clean and renewable
energy source. Not only does the setup costs long-term savings and reduce energy bills, but also
reduces the requirement for any external power sources.

3.0 Conclusion
Based on the aforementioned findings, transitioning to solar streetlights presents numerous
advantages, including enhance safety, reduced operational costs, and a lower environmental
impact. The upfront investment can be recuperated over time, given the saving on energy bills and
maintenance. The study outlines the critical aspects to consider for solar streetlight
implementation, reflecting the balance between safety, cost-efficiency, and sustainability.
Recommended Action
1. Pilot project: A trial-and-error operation to initiate a small-scale pilot project in high-crime or
high-accident areas to monitor effectiveness and gather data.
2. Community input: We should engage with the community and local residents to understand their
need, and obtain feedback during the planning phase.
3. Partnership: Explore partnership with local government or non-profits for funding or support.
4. Future Technologies: Stay informed about advancements in solar technology to ensure the
selected solution remain competitive and efficient.
5. Plan B: In case of unforeseen challenges with solar installation, lets consider hybrid solutions
that combine solar lighting with minimal grid dependence.
