(Line Integrals and path independent line integrals)

1. Calculate the line integral ∫𝐶 𝐹̅ (𝑟̅ )·𝑑𝑟̅ of the vector function 𝐹̅ = (𝑥 2 + 𝑦 2 , 𝑥 − 𝑦, 𝑥𝑦𝑧)
(a) along the curve 𝐶: 𝑟̅ (𝑡) = (𝑡, 𝑡 2 , 𝑡 3 ) from (0,0,0) to (2,4,8)
(a) along any other curve between the same end points (0,0,0) and (2,4,8)
(b) Comment on the results obtained in (a) and (b).

2. Evaluate the following line integrals directly or by checking for path independence:
𝜋
(a) 𝐹̅ = (𝑥 2 , 𝑦 2 , 𝑦 2 𝑥), over the helix 𝐶: 𝑟̅ (𝑡) = (𝑐𝑜𝑠𝑡, 𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑡, 3𝑡), 0 ≤ 𝑡 ≤ 2 .
(b) 𝐹̅ = (𝑥, 𝑦 2 , 𝑧 3 ) over the curve obtained by the intersection of surfaces x2 + y2 = 25 and y = z
between (0, 5, 5) and (3, 4, 4).

3. Find the line integral ∫𝐶 𝐹̅ (𝑟̅ )·𝑑𝑟̅ of the vector function 𝐹̅ = (𝑥 2 + 𝑦, 𝑥 + 𝑦)

(a) along the curve 𝐶1 from (0,1) to (2,1).
(b) along the curve 𝐶2 from (2,1) to (3,0).
(c)along the curve ABC which comprises of 𝐶1 and 𝐶2 . A(0,1) C1 B(2,1)

C2 𝑦 = (𝑥 − 3)2
C(3,0)
4. Evaluate ∮𝑐 𝑐𝑜𝑠𝑥 𝑐𝑜𝑠𝑦 𝑑𝑥 − 𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑥 𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑦 𝑑𝑦 along any closed curve C.
