HOLIDAYS HOMEWORK

CLASS 10th

SUBJECT MATHEMATICS
Important notes

1. Do the given holidays homework on A4 size plain paper.

2. Present both projects neatly with proper explanation.
3. The work given according to your class roll numbers should be done on A3 or A4 size coloured
sheet as per the requirement.
4. Complete your work in Maths fair copy, if there is any pending work.
5. Revise the concepts done in class thoroughly for upcoming formative assessments.

Worksheet
Question 1: A pair of linear equations is shown below, where b is an integer
2x-y= b+1
x+(b-1)y= 3b
For any given value of b, how many solution(s) does this pair of equations have? Justify.

Question 2: A two- digit number is such that the sum of its digit is 11. When the digits are
reversed, the resulting number increases by 27. Determine the original 2- digit number. Show
your work.

Question 3: Let p and q be the zeroes of the polynomial 3x2 +4x-4.Without finding the actual
values of p and q. Evaluate (1-p)(1-q).Show your steps.
Question 4: p(x) is a polynomial given by ax2- 4x+3, where a is a non-zero real number. One of
the zeroes of p(x) is 3 times the other zero. Find the value of a. Show your work. Based on the
value of a, what would be the shape of the graph of p(x)? Give a reason for your answer.
Question 5: (Case Study)
A new Intra-city transportation start has employed both taxis and auto. The night fare for a taxi
is Rs 9 for the first half km and Rs 15 per km, thereafter, while the night fare for an auto is Rs. 20
for the first one km and Rs. 13 per km thereafter.
Answer the following questions
i) Express the night fare structure for taxis and auto in the form of linear equations. Use ‘f ‘as
the fare (in Rs.) and d as the distance travelled (in km) .
ii) At what distance is the night fare for a taxi and an auto equal? Show your work.
Project work

1) Track house hold expenses for a week, analyze spending patterns and create a budget plan and
create a budget plan and connect it to a pair of linear equations and find the solution
graphically.
2) Exploring the relationship between zeroes and coefficients
a) Take several quadratic and cubic polynomials.
b) Find their zeroes algebraically (factorization or quadratic formula) or graphically.
c) Calculate the sum and product (and sum of the product of zeroes taken two at a time for
cubic polynomial )
d) Compare these values with the coefficients of the polynomials and verify the established
relationships.
e) Presentation: A table summarizing the polynomials , their zeroes ,the calculated sums and
products and the verification of the relationships.

Do the following work according to your class roll numbers on A3 or A4 sheet

Roll no 1 to 7 Create Geometric Art using patterns, shapes and symmetry

Roll no 8 to 14 Explore mathematical patterns found in nature like Fibonacci sequence in
flowers and similar to this other patterns and present them beautifully in the form of a
project and show your creativity.
Roll no 15 to 21 Write Mathematical Quotes /slogans/ Games creatively on A3 or A4 size
sheet.
Roll no 22 to 28 Explore and present creatively how different cultures have contributed to
mathematics.
Roll no 29 to 34 Feature biographies and contribution of influential mathematicians
throughout history.
