Worksheet 1 on Real Number

1. Prove that:

a) √2 is an irrational number. c) √5 is an irrational number.

b) √3 is an irrational number. d) √7 is an irrational number.
2. To prove that a) 1/√7 is an irrational number.

b) √3+√7 is an irrational number.

c)(3-√5) is an irrational number.

d) (2+5 √7) is an irrational number.

e) (2+√3)2 is an irrational number
3. Find the HCF and LCM of given pair of numbers using prime factorization.
1.(65 ,117) 2.(501,1155) 3.(32,380)
4.If the HCF of 65 and 117 is expressible in the form 65m – 117, then the value of m
5. .If HCF (26, 169) = 13, then LCM (26, 169) =?

6. Verify that: HCF × LCM = Product of the two numbers for (48, 84).

7. A circular field has a circumference of 360km. Three cyclists start together and can cycle
48, 60 and 72 km a day, round the field. When will they meet again?
8. If the sum of LCM and HCF of two numbers is 1260 and their LCM is 900 more than their
HCF, then the product of two numbers is.
9.The HCF of two numbers is 145 and their LCM is 2175. If one number is 725, find the
other.
10.In a seminar, the number of participants in Hindi, English and Mathematics are 60, 84
and 108, respectively. Find the minimum number of rooms required if in each room the same
numbers of participants are to be seated and all of them being in the same subject.
11.Find the greatest number which divides 285 and 1249 leaving remainders 9 and 7
respectively.
12. Find the smallest number which leaves remainders 8 and 12 when divided by 28 and 32
respectively.

13. Find the smallest number which when increased by 17 is exactly divisible by both 520
and 468. .

14. Prove that 3 + 2√5 is irrational.

15..Prove that 7√2 is irrational

Worksheet 2 Polynomials

1 .Write the degree and number of terms in the following polynomials:

● 4x³ - 3x² + 2x - 7
● x² + 2x
● 7

2.Find the zero(s) of the following polynomials:

o x² - 7x + 10
o x² + 2x - 15
o x² - 9
3 For the quadratic polynomial x² - 5x + 6, find its zeros and verify the relationship between
the zeros and the coefficients .
4.If α and β are the zeros of the polynomial x² - 3x + 2, find:

 α+β
 αβ
 Verify the relationship with coefficients.
5. 12.Form a quadratic polynomial whose sum and product of zeroes are:
o (a) 4, 1
o (b) –3, 2

● If α and β are the zeroes of the quadratic polynomial f(x)=kx2+4x+4 such that
α2 + β2 = 24, find the values of k.

● If α and β are zereos of the polynomial 2x2 – 5x + 7, then find the value of α-1 + β-1.
● Find the quadratic polynomial whose sum of zeroes is 8 and their product is 12.
Hence find zeroes of polynomial.

● If one zero of the polynomial (a2 + 9)x2 + 13x + 6a is reciprocal of the other, find the
value of a.

● Find the quadratic polynomial whose zeroes are 1 and – 3. Verify the relation
between the coefficients and the zeroes of the polynomial.
