1. Brief overview of course


Identification of PC parts and peripheral devices, functions, application and how
to use them, safety precaution, procedures for booting a PC. Filing system,
directory, sub directory, file, path, and how to locate them, word processing,
principal of operation, application, demonstration and practical exercise on e-mail
and www. Using popular browsers.

2. Course objectives/ goals


At the end of this course the student should be able to identify all PC parts and
peripherals, observe safety precautions, differentiate between system and
application software with window XP, Microsoft DOS, Microsoft office package.

peripheral devices: functions, applications, and how to
use them, understanding computer memory and storage
devices, preparing to use the computer, categories of
computers, advantages and disadvantages of using
computers; Software types and functions
2. Mr. J. Katende Procedure for booting a PC Filing system: directory, sub- 3-4
directory, file, path, and how to locate them. MS
Windows: Components of a window, Menus, Mouse
basics, start menu, Customizing windows desktop.
Working with programs, organizing files and folders in
windows, Windows keyboard shortcuts, Window Help
commands.
3. Mrs. T. Abiodun Analog and digital signals, modes of data transmission, 5
communication hardware, computer networks, types on
network, network topologies, home networking, network
architectures. Internet: services available, principle of
operation, application, demonstration and hand-on
practical exercises on e-mail and www using popular
browsers.
4. Mrs. T. Abiodun Computer and Society: Introduction to e-societies, e- 6-7
banking, e-filing, e-governance, e-judiciary, e-booking
etc., Safety precautions, Ergonomics, caring for your
computer.
