Part 2: Write an emails. 5 points
Type 1: Both view discussion essay: Thảo luận 2 quan điểm ĐỀ 1 “Some people believe government should spend money on building train and subway lines to reduce traffic congestion. Others think that building more and wider roads is the better way to reduce traffic congestion.” Discuss both views and give your opinion. Traffic congestion is always a worried problem in most countries around the world. Some people argue that the government should build train and subway lines to reduce traffic congestion. However, the others believe that building more wide roads is necessary to solve this problem. I will discuss these two views and give my opinion in the following paragraphs. On the one hand, the construction of train and subway lines have brought many benefits. First of all, building the train and subway lines makes people easy to travel. For example, helping commuters to save money and travel time. Secondly, it is safe for passengers and environmentally friendly. The construction of train and subway lines helps to reduce emissions into the environment. This contributes to a clean environment. On the other hand, I think that building more wide roads is also the best way to reduce traffic congestion. Firstly, the construction of more large roads to reduce traffic congestion. For instance, the government should build many bypass roads to reduce traffic congestion in rush hour. In addition, the government should draw separate large and small traffic lanes to avoid traffic jams. This helps people to travel easily and safely on the streets. To sum up, building train, subway lines as well as widening wide roads are beneficial. But I think that it will be more beneficial to build more wide roads to reduce traffic congestion and it is easy for people to travel on the streets. ĐỀ 2 “Some people think that it is good for a country's culture to import foreign movies and TV programmes. Others think that it is better to produce these locally.” Discuss both views and give your opinion. Some people like importing movies and TV programmers from other countries, but others like producing these within their own country because of making a valuable contribution to national cultures. I will discuss both of these views in the following paragraphs. On the one hand, local movies and TV programmes enrich national culture in two important ways. From an educational perspective, young people can learn about their country’s the past, stimulating their interests and national pride. For instance, instead of studying history from boring textbooks, students nowadays are able to learn about their nation’s history by watching locally – made documentaries or movies. From an entertainment perspective, local TV shows and films are relevant to everyday experiences and a familiar way of life. Even when copyright ideas from other countries are used, local producers can adapt these to make shows such as a Vietnamese version of The Voice or The Next Top Model. On the other hand, I believe that international movies and TV programmes can also benefit the cultural life of a country. Firstly, people are able to understand something of the life and cultures of other countries, which they can simply enjoy as entertainment or adventure. The American film ‘Titanic’ for example, is not only a disaster movie, but also an idea about the history of emigration from Europe to the USA. Secondly, foreign movies and TV shows help many people to improve their language skills, combining learning and enjoyment. In conclusion, although international movies and TV programmes contribute to the diversity of a country’s culture. However, I think that local films and TV industries should also be supported owing to their roles as education and entertainment providers. Type 2: Opinion essay: Cho ý kiến ĐỀ 3 “It is impossible to help all people in the world, so governments should only focus on people in their own countries.” To what extent do you agree or disagree? Some people say that governments shouldn’t help people in other countries. I strongly disagree with this view because I believe that government should try to help as many people as possible. I accept that it is important to help our neighbours and citizens. In most communities there are people who are disadvantaged in some way. It is possible to find homeless people, for example, in even the wealthiest of cities, and for those who are concerned about this problem, there are usually opportunities to volunteer time or give money to support these people. In Vietnam, people can help in a variety of ways, from donating clothing to serving free food in a soup kitchen. As the problems are on our doorstep, and there are obvious ways to help, I can understand why some people feel that we should prioritize local charity. Furthermore, I believe that we have an obligation to help those who live beyond our national borders. In some countries the problems that people face are much more serious than those in our own communities, and it is often even easier to help. For example, when children are dying from curable diseases in African countries, governments and individuals in richer countries can save lives simply by paying for vaccines that already exist. A small donation to an international charity might have a much greater impact than helping in our local area. In conclusion, it is true that we cannot help everyone, but in my opinion national boundaries should not stop us from helping those who are in need. ĐỀ 4 “In the future, it seems more difficult to live on the Earth. Some people think more money should be spent on researching other planet to live, such as Mars.” To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Nowadays, some people think that people should look for a new place to live instead of the earth in the future because it seems more difficult to live on the earth such as Mars. I strongly disagree with the above opinion because it is not feasible and I will express my opinion in the following paragraph. Although global warming is a serious problem right now, spending too much money on studying another planet to live on is really too expensive and very difficult to be successful. Firstly, I think it's very difficult to move everyone from Earth to Mars. We won't have enough time and money for all of us to get to Mars. Because the cost of traveling is not small, the travel time and distance is huge. Besides, starting a new life in a new environment is not an easy thing for people. Secondly, instead of thinking about a new living environment, let's raise the awareness of protecting our current environment. The most important issue today is about the environment and health. For example, about the environment, we need to join hands to clean up the environment, plant more trees, classify and treat waste, use public transport to limit environmental pollution, save money electricity, water,…Regarding health issue, the government should have policies to support medical examination and treatment for the community. Providing more medical staff to serve the people's health care needs better. In conclusion, finding another planet to live on in the future is a wonderful thing. However, we need to think carefully because this does not seem like the right time for that. On the earth, there are still many good things waiting for us to discover to live. ĐỀ 5 “Nowadays, more and more people read news on the internet. However, newspapers have most of important information sources of news.” Give your opinion from your experience and give examples. Nowadays, the convenience and rapid development of the internet has contributed a lot to people’s entertainment and knowledge. Some people have different views on whether people should read news on the internet or in traditional newspapers. In my opinion, traditional newspapers have the ability to provide more important and exact information than electronic newspapers to the society. Electronic-paper plays an important role in human relaxation. People assume that this is posted online that can be read by readers all the time. However, due to the fact that anyone can upload content freely, the information appears to be completely inaccurate. Some unreliable websites, for example, some readers are exposed to all aspects of the information. But some people can afford to post various information that contains unauthenticated data. As a result, this inaccurate information negatively affected human knowledge. I surely believe that printed articles are the most important source of news. This information can reveal all aspects of issues related to all areas of society to readers. For instance, information on Covid 19 pandemic is daily updated by reputable newspapers. Additionally, people read information many times but the cost is low. People only spend about 10 thousand Vietnamese dong to buy one newspaper. In summary, although the fact that there is no denying the positive effect of e-paper on readers in particular, I believe that traditional newspapers have a significant role in providing the exact information to readers and it is beneficial for people’s reading cost. ĐỀ 6 “Fossil fuel is the main source of energy. In some countries, the use of alternative sources of energy is encouraged.” To what extent do you think is it a positive or negative development? Energy is mainly generated from fossil fuel; many nations have encouraged people to use energy from new sources. I completely agree with this statement and I will present my view in the body paragraph as follow. Using fossil fuel has caused a number of environmental problems. The first thing is that the huge amount of carbon dioxide in the combustion of fossil fuel contributes to global warming, leading to significant climate change. Therefore, floods and droughts caused by EL Nino will occur more frequently. At the same time, I also accept that using alternative energy such as solar, wind or tidal power. This new energy brings a lot of benefits to the world. The outstanding advantage of non-renewable energy is that it does not negatively impact the environment as much as non- renewable energy. As a result, the use of these energy sources has reduced both human and financial resources in protecting the global environment as well as shortening the health burden of consumers and workers involved. Furthermore, using these alternative forms of energy is more dynamic than fossil fuel because these new sources such as water, wind, solar are endless, and renewable energy is cheaper than older forms. To summarize, I support the promotion of renewable energy application in places where fossil fuel is used. This trend has several positive effects on both government and individuals. ĐỀ 7 “Nowadays, most large companies operate multi-nationally.” To what extent those companies should have responsibility towards local communities in which they operate? Today, large companies expand their reach beyond their home country by establishing branches abroad. These transnational companies not only need to take care of the interests of shareholders, customers and employees in the face of difficulties in profit, but also fulfill their responsibilities towards society, especially the local community. I deeply agree with this statement and I will express my opinion as follows. First of all, the foreign companies must have some contribution to the society. This could be done by providing the working opportunities for the locals and treating them equally. For example, the companies should offer a sufficient amount of salary for the workers to ensure their lives ‘qualities and of course, exploited labour is always being avoided. Moreover, multinational companies, especially selling companies, should also take social contributions into account, such as establishing social welfare funds, that can improve the companies’ reputation. Secondly, another aspect which any multinational firms should emphasize on is the local environment. They have to make sure that none of their waste will damage the local environment. To be more specific, they have to decontaminate the chemical waste before dumping it into the sewage, or purify the gas before releasing it into the air, therefore, the water and the air will not be polluted. To sum up, big companies should have responsibilities to local community about the working opportunities for young people and protecting the local environment effectively. Type 3: Problem -solution essay: Nguyên nhân - giải quyết ĐỀ 8 “Many people say the gap between rich and poor people is wider, as rich people become richer and poor people grow poorer.” What problems could this situation cause and what measures can be done to address those problem? The issue of rich and poor has always been of great concern to everyone. The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. This has had a negative impact on society. I will point out the problems and offer some solutions to solve these in this essay. At first all, rich people have a lot of money so they can invest, do business and develop their career to become more and more financially prosperous. Besides, the rich have the opportunity to learn and gain experience to prepare for a smooth and long-term job. They always find well-paid jobs and are offered by big companies. While, the poor do not have enough meals and cannot find stable jobs. They don't have money to invest and do business because they don't go to school and have no work experience. On the other hand, these problems can also be solved. First of all, the government should pay high taxes on the rich. Take advantage of these funds to build more schools, free tuition for children from disadvantaged families. Next, there are many rich people who help the poor by providing scholarships and free education. Additionally, the government encourages the rich to open companies or factories in remote and isolated areas and to train workers with more experience. Finally, state banks should make conditions for the poor to borrow start-up capital without interest. To up, there are a number of reasons that create a gap between the rich and the poor in society. I think that poor people must try to work harder, study more, and exchange experience at work to shorten the gap between the rich and the poor in society. Everyone should share and help each other everything in life. The government should also be responsible for this issue.
