2.1 Transformer Substation

The Transformer substations transform electric power may flow through several
transformer substations at different voltage levels. A transformer substation includes
transformers to change voltage levels between high transmission voltages and lower
distribution voltages, or at the interconnection of two different transmission voltages .

2.1.1 Construction of transformer substation

There are many types of substations :-

1. Super high voltage :- Transformer station with voltage greater than 500kV.
2. High voltage :- Transformer stations with voltage of 66kV, 110kV, 220kV
and 500kV.
3. Medium voltage :- Including transformer stations with voltage of 6kV,
10kV, 15kV, 22kV and 35kV.
4. Low voltage :- Transformer stations with smaller voltage are usually 0.4kV
and 0.2kV.

2.1.1.2 Classification of transformer

stations according to position
on the grid
2.2 Pole mounted substation :- A station where high and low voltage
transformers are hung on the column. Transformers are usually single- phase or
a group of three single-phase transformers.
Figure 2.2 Pole mounted substation

 Gantry transformer substation :- A typical structure of the gantry

transformer substation is a transformer placed on the support between
two large pillars, with a voltage of 35kV, 22kV/0.4kV.

Figure 2.3 Gantry transformation substation

 Grounding substation systems :- The ground station features are

highpressure equipment placed on columns, low-pressure indoor
distribution cabinets, and transformers often placed on the ground cement
platforms. Around the station is protected by a fence to ensure safety for
people.

1. MCCB
A Moulded case circuit breaker (MCCB) is a type of electrical protection device that is used
to protect the electrical circuit from excessive current.

2. RCCB

Residual Current Circuit Breaker While electricity has become an indispensable

component of our lives, the fact is, it comes with its own hazards to human life and
property.

1. MCB

A Miniature Circuit Breaker is an automatically operated electrical switch used to

protect low voltage electrical circuits from damage caused by excess current from
an overload or short circuit. MCBs are typically rated up to a current up to 125A.

2. CONTACTORS

A Contactor is a special type of relay used for switching an electrical circuit on or

off. They are most used with electric motors and lighting applications.

3. BUSBAR’S

Busbars are solid metal bars used to carry current. Typically made from copper
or aluminium, busbars are rigid and flat – wider than cables but up to 70%
shorter in height.

2.2.2 AND GATE (IC 7408)

Properties of AND Gate :-

The following are two main properties of the AND gate

 AND gate can accept two or more than two input values at a time.
 When all of the inputs are logic 1, the output of this gate is logic 1.

2.2.3 OR GATE (IC 7432)

OR GATE is most widely used digital logic circuit. The output state of OR gate will
be high i.e.,(1) if any of the input state is high or 1, else output state will be low i.e.,
0.
The Boolean Expression for the OR gate is the logical addition of inputs denoted by
plus sign(+)

Properties of OR Gate :-

An OR gate have the following two properties:

 It can have two or more input lines at a time.
 When all of the inputs to the OR gate are low or logic 0, the output of it is low
or logic 0.

2.2.4 NOT GATE (IC 7404)

In digital electronics, the NOT gate is one of the basic logic gate having only a single
input and a single output. It is also known as inverter or inverting buffer.

Properties of NOT Gate

 The output of a NOT gate is complement or inverse of the input applied to it.
 NOT gate takes only one output.

2.2.5 NAND GATE (IC 7400)

The NAND Gate is another type of Universal logic gate. The NAND gate or “Not AND”
is the combination of two basic logic gates AND gate and the NOT gate connected in
series. It takes two or more inputs and gives only one output.

Properties of NAND Gate

The following are the two key properties of NAND Gate

 NAND gate can take two or more inputs at a time and produces one output based
on the combination of inputs applied.

2.2.6 NOR GATE (IC 7402)

The NOR gate is the type of universal logic gate. It takes two or more inputs and gives
only one output. The output state of the NOR gate will be high(1) when all the inputs
are low(0). NOR gate returns the complement result of the OR gate.

Properties of NOR Gate

The following are two important properties of NOR gate:-

 A NOR gate can have two or more inputs and gives an output.
 A NOR gate gives a high or logic 1 output only when its all inputs are low or
logic 0

3.1.2Working of loT-Based Automation System

 A complicated architecture underpins an loT automation system, which
comprises distant servers and sensors. The servers are cloud-based and
can manage many sensors at once.
 Bluetooth, ZigBee, Wi-Fi, and Z-Wave may all be used to communicate
with loT sensors. A controller, often known as a hub or gateway, is the
central component of the system.
