DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 8

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. Identify the different angles formed when two parallel lines are cut by a transversal;
b. Describe the relationships of the angles formed; and
c. Find the measures of the angles formed using their relationships.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Properties of Parallel Lines Cut by a Transversal
Reference: Grade 8 Mathematics Learner’s Module
Materials: Chart, ruler, protractor, PowerPoint presentation, illustration board, marker

III. Procedures
1. A. Preliminary Activity

1. Prayer – led by a student

2. Greetings – “Good morning, class!”
3. Attendance – “Who is absent today?”
4. Classroom rules review – read together as a class

2. B. Motivation

(Teacher shows an image or diagram of parallel lines cut by a transversal.)

Teacher: “Class, observe the diagram. What do you notice about the lines and angles?”
(Students respond. Teacher asks follow-up questions to engage prior knowledge.)

3. C. Presentation

Teacher presents the topic: “Properties of Parallel Lines Cut by a Transversal”

Teacher shows a diagram and introduces terms: parallel lines, transversal, corresponding
angles, alternate interior, alternate exterior, and consecutive interior angles.
4. D. Discussion

- Discuss and label angle pairs using a diagram.

- Use guiding questions:
* “Which angles are equal?”
* “Which angles are supplementary?”
- Explain each pair: corresponding, alternate interior, alternate exterior, consecutive
interior.
- Provide examples and let students identify angle pairs.

5. E. Application

Group Activity:
- Each group receives a diagram.
- They label all the angles and identify the relationships.
- Use a protractor to verify congruent and supplementary angles.
- Present findings to the class.

6. F. Generalization

Teacher asks the class:

- “What are the different types of angle pairs formed by a transversal?”
- “How do we determine angle measures?”
- “Why are these relationships important?”
Summarize the key concepts and relationships.

7. G. Valuing

Reflection question:
“Why is it important to understand the angles formed by parallel lines and a transversal?
How can this help you outside the classroom?”
(Students write their answers on ¼ sheet and share aloud)

IV. Evaluation
Direction: Choose the letter of the correct answer. (½ sheet of paper)
1. Which angles are always congruent?
A) Corresponding Angles
B) Linear Pairs
C) Consecutive Interior
D) Vertical Angles

2. If one angle is 70°, what is its alternate interior angle?

A) 110°
B) 90°
C) 70°
D) 50°

3. Which angles are supplementary?

A) Alternate Interior
B) Corresponding
C) Linear Pair
D) Vertical

4. Which term refers to angles on the same side of the transversal and inside the parallel
lines?
A) Vertical
B) Linear Pair
C) Alternate Exterior
D) Consecutive Interior

5. Which of the following is not a pair of congruent angles?

A) Corresponding Angles
B) Alternate Exterior
C) Consecutive Interior
D) Alternate Interior

V. Assignment
On a short bond paper:
Instruction:
Draw two parallel lines cut by a transversal.
- Label all 8 angles.
- Identify and name at least 4 angle relationships (e.g., corresponding, alternate interior).
- Briefly describe where you see these in real-life settings (buildings, roads, bridges, etc.).
