M Melvin Daniel - 01 - Subteam - PDF 2

The document outlines the design requirements for a multirotor UAV with a maximum take-off weight of 10 kg, a thrust-to-weight ratio of 2:1, an endurance of 30 minutes, and a minimum speed of 25 m/s. It provides calculations for total thrust, motor power, and additional power consumption, along with specifications for the motor, propeller, battery, and ESC. Additional considerations for the drone's design include frame durability, power distribution, flight control systems, and safety features.

1.Given the MTOW of 10kg and maintaining the thrust-to-weight ratio of 2:1, nd the
appropriate motor, propeller, battery and ESC for building a multirotor. Given the
Endurance is 30 mins and min speed of 25m/s.(consider power consumed by every other
component required to make the drone y

Ans: As the rapid advancement of UAV technology has transformed various

industries, from aerial photography to package delivery. As we are focusing
on the package delivery we have to focus on our requirements and we have
to calculate the weight of the product and the distance it need to be traveled
and need to be mapped the UAV should be travelled, these are some basic
thing need to be noted.

To initiate the design process, speci c requirements must be

established:

. Maximum Take-O Weight : 10 kg

. Thrust-to-Weight Ratio: 2:1
. Endurance: 30 minutes
. Minimum speed: 25 m/s (56 mph)

Given:
>MTOW = 10 kg
MTOW(Maximum Take-O Weight) represents the maximum weight of the
quadcopter, including the vehicle itself, payload, batteries, and any additional
components.

>Thrust-to-Weight Ratio: 2:1

The thrust-to-weight ratio is a critical factor in determining a quadcopter
performance. It represents the amount of thrust generated per unit of weight. A 2:1
ratio means the quadcopter produces 2 units of thrust for every 1 unit of weight.

>Endurance: 30 minutes
Endurance refers to the length of time a quadcopter can remain airborne,
performing its intended mission.

>Minimum speed: 25 m/s

The minimum speed requirement of 25 m/s (approximately 56 mph or 90 km/h)
ensures the quadcopter can maintain stable ight and perform its intended mission.

Let's break down the calculation:

>Total Thrust Required = MTOW * Thrust-to-Weight Ratio
= 10kg*2
= 20kg (or) 196N
>Thrust per motor=Total Thrust/4
=196/4
=49N

Power consumption estimate :

>Motor power=49 N x 25 m/s =1225 W (or) 1.225 kW
>Additional power for other components such as (control systems, Wireless
Sensor Networks)=10-20% of motor power =122.5 to 245 W
>Total power consumption=1347.5 to1470 W

Components and specs need or suggested

>motor:
Thrust: 49 N
Power: 1225 W (or 1.225 kW)
KV (RPM/V): 100-150 KV

>Propeller:
Diameter: 10-12 inches (25-30 cm)
Pitch: 4-5 inches (10-13 cm)
Material: Carbon ber or glass ber
Link:https://amzn.in/d/i1QFwQg
>Battery:
Capacity: 22-28 Ah (to achieve 30+minutes y time)
Voltage: 12S (44.4 V)
Type: LiPo or Li-ion
C-rating: 100-150 C (for high discharge rates)
Link:https://amzn.in/d/iirX7wN
>ESC:
Rating: 250-350 A
Support for 12S voltage
High-frequency switching (> 16 kHz)
Link:https://amzn.in/d/99qNddd

These are the some very basic components of the drone . We have many
more considerations like:

>Frame design and durability

>Power distribution board (PDB)
>Flight control system (or) Microcontroller
>Telemetry and communication systems
>Safety features (e.g., GPS, emergency landing)

We have to note the weight and power consumption of each component used
so we can increase the y time or to know the maximum y time of the
quadcopter
