Q1. Define Acids and Bases.

- Acids: Substances that release H+ ions in water. Taste sour. Eg: HCl, H2SO4.

- Bases: Substances that release OH- ions in water. Taste bitter. Eg: NaOH, Ca(OH)2.

Q2. Properties of Acids and Bases:

Q3. What are Indicators? Give examples.

- Indicators are substances that change color in acids or bases.

Examples: Litmus, Phenolphthalein, Methyl Orange.

Q4. Neutralization Reaction:

- When an acid reacts with a base, salt and water are formed.

Eg: HCl + NaOH → NaCl + H₂O

Q5. Common Salts:

- Table Salt: NaCl


- Baking Soda: NaHCO₃ (used in cooking)

- Washing Soda: Na₂CO₃ (used for cleaning)

- Bleaching Powder: CaOCl₂ (used for disinfecting)
