conduit, and wire protection rating.
E. Circuit – 5 for Range Load
1. Range load (appliance rating) at 8.0 kw = 8,000 watts

2. Solve for the Line Current

8,000 𝑤𝑎𝑡𝑡𝑠
𝐼=
230 𝑣𝑜𝑙𝑡𝑠

𝐼 = 34.78 𝑎𝑚𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑒𝑠
3. Refer to table, apply 80% demand

G. Circuit – 7 and Circuit – 8 with 1-Unit Air Conditioner each
1. 1-unit air conditioner at 1.5 horsepower is:
1.5ℎ𝑝 746𝑤𝑎𝑡𝑡𝑠 = 1,119 𝑤𝑎𝑡𝑡𝑠

Article 6. 7 of the Philippine Electrical. Code (PEC) provides that: “Branch

circuit conductor supplying a motor shall have an ampacity not less than 125 %
of the full load current.”

2. Current Load
1,119 𝑤𝑎𝑡𝑡𝑠
𝐼=
230 𝑣𝑜𝑙𝑡𝑠
𝐼 = 4.86 𝑎𝑚𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑒𝑠
4.86 125% = 6.07 𝑎𝑚𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑒𝑠
4. Size of the Branch Circuit Wire

Refer from table, for the 6.07 ampere load,

use 2.0 No. 14 TW copper wire, but the
code limits the size of convenience outlet
to No. 12 AWG copper wire.
Thus, use No. 12 THW copper wire for
Circuit – 7 and Circuit – 8.
5. Size of the Conduit Pipe

250% of the full load current of the motor.”

4.86 250% = 12.15 𝑎𝑚𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑒𝑠

From the table for a continuous load, use 2pcs –

30 amperes trip breaker
Calculating the Ampacity of the Service Entrance
Conductor and the Main Disconnecting Means
1. Find the total current load of Circuit – 1 to Circuit – 8:

Lighting Load Circuit – 1 and Circuit – 2 1,900 watts

Small appliance load Circuit – 3 and Circuit – 4 4,320 watts
Other loads Circuit – 5 and Circuit – 6 10,500 watts
Total load (except the Aircon unit) 16,720 watts
2. From table, Optional Calculation for Dwelling Unit, apply demand factor (df).
• For the first 10,000w at 100%(df) • For other load, multiply by 40%
10,000 watts 6,720(40%) = 2,688 watts
Subtract: 16,720 - 10,000 = 6,720 Aircon unit at 100% demand factor (df)
watts.
2-unit at 1,119 watts 2,238 watts
Total 14,926 watts
Total Connected Load plus 25% of the Largest Motor
14,926+(25%𝑜𝑓1,119𝑤)
1. Amperes 𝐼 =
230 𝑣𝑜𝑙𝑡𝑠
𝐼 = 63.37 𝑎𝑚𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑒𝑠

2. The size of Main Feeder and the Neutral

Line
From table, use 2 − 38𝑚𝑚2 TW copper wire.
3. The Neutral conductor of a 3-wire line to line
supply system shall have an ampacity of not less
than 70% of the undergrounded (live wire)
conductor or Two Trade size smaller than the
undergrounded conductor. (PEC Specifications).
Therefore use 1- 22 𝑚𝑚2 TW copper wire for
the Neutral line.

4. Size of the Conduit Pipe

Refer to table, use 32mm diameter pipe
5. For Main Breaker
Refer to table, Use 2-100 ampere 2-wires 250
volts, 2 – pole molded air circuit breaker.

The total computed load is 63.37 amperes, the 30

𝑚𝑚2 copper wire could be used considering its
90 amperes ampacity. However, the NEC provides
that: “If the computed load exceeds 10,000 watts,
the conductor and overcurrent protection shall be
rated not less than 100 amperes.”

Therefore, use 2-38 𝒎𝒎𝟐 TW wire for the Main

Feeder, and 2-100 amperes for the main breaker.
Total current = 63.73 Amperes. use 2-38 𝑚𝑚2 TW copper wire and 1- 8 𝑚𝑚2 for
the Main Feeder and Neutral Feeder respectively, one 100 ampere 2 pole2 wire,
250 volts breaker
