ABSTRACT
The abstract should be single line spacing, italicize and one paragraph. The usual sections defined in
a structured abstract are the Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusions;
Background: This section should be the shortest part of the abstract and should briefly
outline the following information:
1. What is already known about the subject, related to the paper in question
2. What is not known about the subject and hence what the study intended to
examine (or what the paper seeks to present)
Methods:
The methods section is usually the second-longest section in the abstract. It should contain enough
information to enable the reader understand what was done.
Results:
The results section is the most important part of the abstract and nothing should compromise its
range and quality. This is because readers who peruse an abstract do so to learn about the findings of
the study.
CONCLUSIONS:
This section should contain the most important take-home message of the study, expressed in a few
precisely worded sentences.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Recommendation are typically included in the conclusion based on the research findings.
EXAMPLE OF ABSTRACT
This project aims to design and implement a computerized medical duties scheduling system to
replace the manual system currently in use. The new system is designed to automate the process of
creating and managing duty schedules, reduce errors, and improve efficiency. The system is user-
friendly, secure, and scalable, and it has been tested and validated to ensure its reliability and
accuracy. The system's main features include user authentication and authorization, duty schedule
creation and management, automatic reminders and notifications, secure data storage and retrieval,
and a user-friendly interface. The system was successfully implemented in a healthcare
organization, resulting in a significant reduction in errors and an improvement in efficiency. This
project demonstrates the effectiveness of computerized systems in improving the efficiency and
iii
accuracy of medical staff duty scheduling, and it has the potential to be adapted and implemented in
other healthcare organizations.
