Research Question and Objective
What is the relationship between the mass of the barrel and the stopping distance of the barrel
when hit by a marble?

To find out the relationship between the mass of the barrel and the stopping distance of the
barrel when hit by a marble.

Theory and Prediction

The more barrels there are, the less distance the closest measurement and the farthest measurement has.

Variables
1.
Independent variable (What the researcher changes) : Mass of barrels
Dependent variable (What gets changed by itself) :
Controlled variable (What stays the same) :

Materials
● Perspex block
● 4 cups
● 2 marbles
● Pen and paper
● Ruler
Procedure
1. Make sure the area where you'll be working is cleared
2. Do not alter the angle of the ruler's tip as you place it on top of your Perspex block.
3. To allow the ball to fit inside the cup when it is turned upside down, cut a small square into the
top of the cup.
4. Place your paper so that the shorter side is aligned to the ruler.
5. Turn the cup over so that the ruler's point and the square hole are in line.
6. Roll your marble by placing it on the ruler's edge.
7. Mark where the marble moves the barrel on the cup's rear.
8. Repeat ten times.
9. Use a different number of cups stacked on top of one another for each measurement.
10. Mark where the farthest measurement of the cup landed and the closest, then draw a line from
both of the marking and make a dot on the line where the most measurements landed
