Lesson Plan in Mathematics 5.2

This lesson plan for Mathematics 5 focuses on teaching students about polygons with five or more sides, including their classification and drawing. It includes objectives, subject matter, and a detailed procedure with activities such as group drills, a mystery box, and discussions on polygon characteristics. The plan emphasizes values such as courage, logical reasoning, and self-confidence throughout the learning process.

LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 5

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
a. Visualize, name and describe polygons with 5 or more
sides.
b. Classify polygons
c. Draw polygons with 5 or more sides.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Classifying Polygons
Reference: New Century Mathematics 5, pp. 158 - 162
Materials: Cut - out shapes, real objects

III. Procedure
A. Preliminary Activities
a. Prayer
b. Greetings
c. Checking of Attendance
d. Setting Standards

B. Developmental Activities
a. Drill
The teacher will divide the students into three (2)
groups.
Each group will receive envelop that contains
different geometric figures.
The teacher will show the word, the designated
leader will raise a card of geometric figure that
corresponds to the word. The first group raises the card
the correct answer gains a point.

Parallel lines
Intersecting lines
Perpendicular lines

b. Review
“Who Am I?” - Kinds of angles

C. Motivation
The teacher will ask the students to sing and
dance the song “Shape - Up!”

D. Activity
“Mystery Box”
The teacher will show to the students the mystery box
of knowledge with real objects inside. Each student will pick
an object from the mystery box and present or show it to the
class.
Values Integrated: Courage, self-confident,
E. Analysis
The teacher will ask the student what is the name,
shapes and the number of sides.
Values Integrated: Logical Reasoning

F. Abstraction
The teacher will discuss about polygons and the type of
polygons according to their sides.

What is polygon?
 In geometry, a polygon can be defined as a flat or plane,
two - dimensional closed shape with straight sides. It does
not have curved sides.
 A polygon is a shape with straight sides. In Greek, “poly”
means many and “gon” means angle, many-angle.

Here are some example of polygons.

Triangle Quadrilateral Pentgon

The parts of a polygon

1. Sides - straight line segment that make up polygons.

2. Vertices - are points where the sides intersect.
3. Angles - are form by the intersecting lines.

The types of polygons are usually classified by the number of

their sides they have. Below are example of polygons with their
corresponding number of sides.

Values Integrated: Clarity, Knowledge, Logical reasoning

G. Application
The teacher will ask the learners to list down at least five
(5) examples of real objects or things that they can see
with different shapes or figures.
Values Integrated:
