Design thinking is a human-centered, iterative process used to understand users and create innovative solutions through five phases: Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test. It is particularly effective for addressing ill-defined problems and fosters collaboration among cross-functional teams to drive innovation. The ultimate goal is to develop solutions that are desirable, feasible, and viable for both users and businesses.

Design Thinking in UX Strategy

What is Design Thinking?

Design thinking is a non-linear, iterative process that teams use to
understand users, challenge assumptions, redefine problems and
create innovative solutions to prototype and test.

It is most useful to tackle ill-defined or unknown problems and

involves five phases: Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype and Test.

What is Design Thinking?
Their design process has five phases: Empathize, Define, Ideate,
Prototype, and Test.

These stages are not always sequential. Teams often run them in
parallel, out of order, and repeat them as needed.

Use
Design thinking fosters innovation. Companies must innovate to
survive and remain competitive in a rapidly changing environment.

In design thinking, cross-functional teams work together to

understand user needs and create solutions that address those
needs.
Use
Design teams importantly use design thinking to tackle ill-
defined/unknown problems (aka wicked problems).

Wicked problems demand teams to think outside the box, take

action quick, and constantly iterate—all hallmarks of design
thinking.

Design thinking offers practical methods and tools that major

companies like Google, Apple and Airbnb use to drive innovation.

Goals
The End Goal of Design Thinking is for solution to: Be Desirable,
Feasible and Viable.

The design thinking process aims to satisfy three criteria:

• Desirability (what do people desire?),
• Feasibility (is it technically possible to build the solution?) And
• Viability (can the company profit from the solution?)

Generally, teams begin with desirability and then bring in the other
two lenses.
