ChE 311 – Fluid Mechanics For Chemical Engineers.

Lecturer: Mr. Khalifa M. Algheryani

Course Objective: To teach students fundamental concepts of fluid flow, and proceed to
cover both macroscopic (𝑖. 𝑒. integral balances) and microscopic (𝑖. 𝑒. differential balances)
approaches to analyze various fluid flow phenomena encountered in chemical engineering
applications.

Course Outline
This course tackles: basic concepts & units; fluid statics, velocity & shear; continuity,
momentum & energy equations; Bernoulli equation; laminar & turbulent flow regimes;
friction loss in pipes; transportation & metering of fluids; pumps & compressors; agitation of
liquids; compressible flow; flow around submerged objects; fluidization..
