Picture description

Describing a picture is the best way to brush up basic English skills. We

use verb ‘’to be’’ (properly conjugated) to describe someone’s age, origin,
personality, heigth, weight,etc.

Also, we use ‘’have got’’ (properly conjugated) to describe those specific

parts of the body such as nose, ears, hair, eyes as well as their
characteristic appearance.

Besides, we can use ‘’present simple’’ to talk about permanent situations,

routine-based or frequent activities (alongside the so-called ‘’adverbs of
frequency’’).Moreover, we can use it to express people’s work, home, hobbies,
etc. To express the number or amoung of something, you can use ‘’there is ‘’
(singular countable nouns and uncountable nouns) and ‘’there are’’ (plural nouns)

Lastly but not least, we use ‘’present continuous’’ to describe the clothes that
the people in the picture are wearing or to express what actions they are
doing. Obviously, to do this effectively, we must make a good use of English,
divide the information into clear paragraphs and resort to connectors that
allow us to connect all the ideas coherently.

In the following page you will find an example that will help you to do your
own picture description. Take a close look at the underlined words and try to
do your own version of it.
This is a picture of my family during these Christmas Holidays. Specifically, this was
our Christmas lunch. As you can see, this is our family. There are just 6 people around the
table. I am the one in the middle of the picture. My sister is next to me, she is trying to
take away the red box from me while I am jumping and smiling.

My sister and I are twins, we both are 8 years old. She is more responsible than me but
I am friendlier than her. She has got black short hair and a pony tail and she has got
a small nose and small black eyes. She loves painting, in fact, she attends drawing lessons
twice a week.

My parents are next to my sister and me. My dad is looking at us as though he was
concerned about we start getting to argue while my mom looks calm and relaxed, yet both
are having a great time. My dad works as an accountant and my mom works as an engineer
for a famous tech company. There is a lot of food on the table and they have paid for all
of it.They are so nice.

Our grandpa and grandma are at both ends of the table. They do not live in our city buy
they visit us on special occasions such as Christmas or our birthdays. Although they are
not very old, they are unemployed. They have got a big house in a nearby city. They have
not got any pet because my grandpa is allergic to them.

I love spending Christmas alongside my family and I hope I can enjoy these celebrations
for many more years.
