Whati S Cladding

Cladding is an exterior finish applied to buildings to protect the underlying structure and provide an aesthetically pleasing appearance. It controls weather infiltration and comes in various materials like metal, brick, stone and timber. Proper cladding helps regulate internal environments, insulate buildings, and prevent fire spread or sound transmission. Common types include curtain walling, over cladding, stone veneer, brick cladding and pre-cast concrete. Selection depends on appearance, durability, maintenance needs and resistance to weather conditions.

Cladding

What is Cladding?
Cladding is an exterior finishing system
meant to protect the underlying structure
(like a home) and provide an aesthetically
appealing finish.
It is the application of one material over
another to provide a skin or layer intended
to control the infiltration of weather
elements. Usually this term has different
meaning depending on the materials used
and the accepted standard in each industry.

Curtain wall systems

Curtain wall systemsare a

They are generally associated
with large, multi-storey building

Curtain wallsseparate the inter

from the exterior, but only supp
their own weight and the loads
imposed on them (such as wind
loads, seismicloadsand so on)
which they transfer back to the
primarystructure of the building

rtain wallscan adopt a 'stick' system, or can be unit

Stick systems are installed piece by piece on site,

with theglazinginserted into the frame from the
nside or the outside depending on access conditions

Unitised systems are pre-fabricated in modules off-s

and delivered in panels.

Unitised systems are better able to exploit the benefi

of factory condition manufacturing andquality contr
and require lower installation time on site.

There are a wide range of possible infill

panels for
curtain wall systems, including:
1.Visionglass(which may be double or
triple glazed,
may include low-e coatings,
reflective coatings and so on).
2.Spandrel (non-vision)glass.
3.Aluminium or other metals.
4.Stone veneer.
5.Fibre-reinforced plastic (FRP).
6.Louvres or vents

TIMBER CLADDING

One of the most popular method

ofcladdingis through the use of
timbersoftwoods, such as weste
red cedar. This type of wood is
relatively knot-free and has a
natural resistance to decay and
moisture. It can be readily staine
orpaintedand altered to create
a range of profiles.

Weatherboard
Cladding

Weatherboards are
usually made from
reconstituted hardwood
or timber that can be
painted or stained
however you would like
them to be. They can be
fixed to all kinds of
underlying material such
a brick.
The slight downside is
that weatherboard

Stone
Cladding
Stone cladding
is comprised of
thin layers of
natural or
simulated stone
on the exterior
of buildings or
homes. Stone
cladding can
make a building
look more
natural and
earthy.
