• Punctuation (derived from the Latin word punctum, a point) implies the
right usage of various kinds of points and stops in writing.
Punctuation?
• Punctuations are imartant for any sentance ,
paragraph etc.
• Punctuations are the symbols\signs uses in
sentance.
• Punctuations shows identification of
sentances.
Types of Punctuation

 Full stop (.)  Hyphen ( - )


 Colon (:)  Apostrophe (’)
 Semicolon (;)  Question mark (?)
 Comma (,)  Exclamation mark (!)
Full stop or Period (.)
It use end of any sentance.
Ex:I am playing.
•Colon (:)
•The colon is often used to introduce a list of items
Example: You will need to bring three things to the
party: some food, something to drink, and a small gift
for the hostess

Semicolon (;)

•A semi colon is often used to join together two


independent clauses
Example: Mary drives a Mercedes; Joanne drives a
Chevrolet
Comma,
To separate items in a series
Ex:I bought pen,book,copy and bag.
Hyphen
 Use hyphens to divide word at end of line.
 Use with compound numbers.
• Eg:twenty-two, thirty-six,fifty-seven
• Use with prefixes such as all-, ex-, great-, and self- and with suffixes
–elect and –free
• EG: all-star, great-aunt, sugar-free,ETC
Exclamation Mark (;)
• Use the exclamation point to show empheis of
excitement.
• Ex:
• Sumer is in three months;
Question Mark(?)
• It use for ask questions.
• It use end of sentance.
• Ex :
• How are you?
• Are you fine?
