Six Stroke Engine

The document summarizes a seminar presentation on a six stroke engine. It begins with an introduction describing how Bruce Crower developed a six stroke engine by adding two additional strokes - a secondary power stroke using water injection, and a secondary exhaust stroke. It then covers the basic workings of two, four, and six stroke engines. The six stroke engine provides advantages like reduced fuel consumption and pollution, as well as higher efficiency. Some disadvantages are the need for modifications and potential water entry into the fuel system. In conclusion, the six stroke engine has benefits over a four stroke engine like higher efficiency and power output with lower fuel consumption and operating temperatures.

INTRODUCTION
• Bruce Crower uses exhaust energy to add 2
new strokes to 4 stroke engine.
• By injecting water at the end of exhaust, so
that an extra power and exhaust stroke added.
• Engine has some heat energy left in it , which
is not utilized.
• Engine runs on normal 4 stroke engine.
ENGINE
“Engine” originally a term for any mechanical
device that convert force into motion.
An engine is a machine design to convert one
form of energy into mechanical energy.

TYPES
• Internal combustion engine
• External combustion engine
2 STROKE ENGINE

• Suction and Compression

• Power and Exhaust

Fig 1.1 2 stroke engine

4 STROKE ENGINE
• Suction

• Compression

• Power

• Exhaust
6 STROKE ENGINE
• The concept of 6 stroke engine developed in mid
20th century when pollution due to the
conventional IC engine increased .

• The six stroke engine “using water” was

developed by Brush Crower in 2006.

• The six stroke engine is based on 4 stroke engine,

but additional two strokes :

1. Secondary power stroke.

2. Secondary exhaust stroke.
SECONDARY POWER STROKE
• At the end of exhaust stroke the cylinder
temperature becomes around 900-1000 °C

• At this stage water is injected by an injector.

• The water is converted into vapour and its

volume increases .
SECONDARY EXHAUST STROKE

• In this stroke the

water vapour is
exhausted by the
upward motion of the
piston.
WORKING OF 6 STROKE ENGINE
• The first four strokes are the same as a 4
stroke internal combustion engine.
• After the exhaust stroke instead of air fuel
mixture(as in case of petrol engine), fresh
air/water is sucked into the cylinder from the
filter and is removed during the sixth stroke.
ADVANTAGES

• Reduction in fuel consumption .

• Two expansions/work power stroke in 6 stroke .
• Reduction in pollution .
• Higher overall efficiency .
• Lower engine temperature .
• Due to more air intake , the cooling system is
improved .
DISADVANTAGES

• Modifications are necessary .

• Chances of entry of water in fuel .

• Engine size increases due to many number of

cylinders and additional components .
COMPARISON
• Lower maintenance costs due to less wearing
parts.

• Increase in thermal energy .

• Longer service intervals possible due to lower

operating temperature recorde .
CONCLUSION
• Six stroke engine have a high efficiency, high
power output and no external cooling system
required over four stroke engine .

• Power output increases .

• Fuel consumption reduces .
