The document discusses different terms used in education - assessment, testing, measurement, and evaluation. While sometimes used interchangeably, they each refer to distinct processes. Assessment involves collecting student information, testing is a formal way to assess skills and knowledge, measurement assigns numerical values to represent performance, and evaluation judges quality against standards. The key purposes of assessment are to provide feedback and determine if learning outcomes were achieved. Different methods and formats are used to assess students in the classroom.

Different Technologies:
Assessment, Testing, Measurement, and Evaluation.
-These terms are sometimes used interchangeably
in the field of education. - In this section, we shall point out the fundamental difference of this terms. Assessment • Refers to the different components and activists of different schools. • Defined as an act or process of collecting and interpreting information about student learning. • Can be used to student learning and in comparing student learning with the learning goals of an academic program. • Process of documenting knowledge, skills, attitudes, and beliefs, usually in measurable terms. The goal of assessment is to make improvements, as opposed to simply being judge. In an educational context, assessment is the process of describing, recording, scoring and interpreting information about learning. Types of Assessment
Formative Summative
Formal “Any questions?” Sum up of learning
Informal Immediate quiz Purpose of Assessment • To provide feed back to students and to serve as diagnostic tool for instructions
• Usually answers the questions “Was the
instruction effective?” and “Did the student achieve the intended learning outcomes?” Test/Testing Form of assessment hence, it also answers the question “How does individual students perform?” Formal and systematic instrument, usually paper and pencil procedure designed to assess the quality, ability, skill or knowledge of the students by giving a set of question in uniform manner. Used to examine someone’s knowledge of something to determine what he or she learned. The thing measures the level of skill or knowledge that has been reached. Types of tests 1. Cognitive Abilities Tests 2. Dynamic Assessment Tests 3. Reading Tests 4.Diagnostic Reading Tests 5. Spelling Tests 6. Language Tests 7.Number Tests 8. Tests of Motor Skills 9. Tests of Autism/Asperger’s Syndrome 10.Example of Tests of Aptitude Testing One of the different methods used to measure the level of performance or achievement of the learners. Also refers to the administrations, scoring, and interpretation of the procedures designed to get information about the extent of the performance of the student. Oral questionings, observations, projects, performances and portfolios are the other assessment processes. Measurement Process of quantifying or assigning number to the individual’s intelligence, personality, attitudes and values, and achievement of the students. Express the assessment data in terms of numerical values and answer the question “How much” Numerical values are used to represent the performance of the students in different subjects. Evaluation Refers to the process of judging the quality of what is good and what is desirable. Comparison of data to a set of standard or learning criteria for the purpose of judging the worth of quality. Most complex and least understand of the terms. Inherent in the idea of evaluation is “Value.” Types of Assessment Procedures Classrooms assessment procedures can be classified according to the nature of assessment, format of assessment, use in the classroom instruction and methods of interpreting the results (Gronlund and Linn, 2000) Nature of Assessment 1.Maximum 2.Typical Performance Performance It is used to It is used to determined determine what what individuals will do individuals can do under natural conditions. when performing at their best.
